Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Law, Political Science, Government, Public Affairs or a relevant field or equivalent practical experience.
  • 14 years of experience working on technology or content policy issues within government, think tanks, public interest groups, or relevant industry associations on challenges related to intellectual property and intermediary liability.
  • Experience in people management.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in online content issues and regulation, including in the United States.
  • Experience successfully executing cross-functional projects, and ability to operate in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience working with international teams and a variety of stakeholders, and in executing strategies to deliver exceptional solutions.
  • Ability to identify opportunities and areas for improvement.
  • Ability to lead and evaluate issues independently.
  • Excellent political, problem-solving, and communication skills with high attention to detail.

About the Job

As a member of Google’s Government Affairs and Public Policy team, you'll be part of a diverse global government affairs team, working across regions, product areas, and functions. You’ll combine creativity and intellectual excellence with the organizational skills to manage various campaigns, projects and initiatives. In this role, you’ll advocate for Google to bring external perspectives back into the company to inform our perception and direction. You're passionate about the opportunity to shape the future of how we use and build technology for everyone.

In this role, you will lead a global team focused on intellectual property and intermediary liability issues, including issues related to Artificial Intelligence. You will coordinate with the global Policy team, business and product organizations, and cross-functional partners in Marketing, Legal, and PR to execute our policy strategy, develop our external narrative around policy challenges, and advise Product teams through the public policy lens. You will develop, organize, manage, and communicate critical plans, initiatives, and strategy, while tracking various regulatory proposals and analyzing their potential impact on Google’s business. Google takes its responsibilities seriously, including engaging with government and other stakeholders on important public policy challenges.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $215,000-$316,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Monitor and research current and relevant emerging public policy issues.
  • Develop position papers and programs to anticipate and shape the public debate regarding intellectual property and intermediary liability.
  • Work closely with Legal, Product, Engineering, and other teams across Google to advise on responsible policy and product development.
  • Advocate for Google externally and bring external perspectives back into the company to inform our perception and direction. 
  • Support outreach with policymakers, industry players, and key opinion formers in thoughtful dialogue. Engage directly with regulators, industry players, and key thought leaders to shape policy and political dialogue around thoughtful, responsible and socially beneficial use of internet-based innovation.
