The Alibaba.com New York office is looking for a creative, innovative, and analytical researcher to further our understanding of unmet needs and opportunities for us to serve global small businesses and help them thrive in an increasingly online and global world. This position will be critical to the company’s global growth strategy as it innovates and deepens relationships with a growing universe of buyers and sellers around the world. It is an exciting opportunity to build the knowledge base of one of the largest companies in the world, and help inform its growth trajectory from product, service, marketing and communication perspectives.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead Alibaba.com North America’s market research work
  • Execute projects focused on understanding the market size, competitive landscape and demand for various b2b market segments and industries.
  • Carryout periodic sentiment and satisfaction analyses
  • Collaborate with various business units and teams to help them develop exploratory and validation research in order to inform their strategic roadmap and go-to-market decisions
  • Synthesize results and present findings to internal stakeholders
  • Advocate for the needs of the customers, whether buyers or suppliers, and be able to represent their interests.
  • Work closely with cross-functional partners, both in North America, China, and around the world, to translate your insights into tangible value for customers.
  • Conduct ad hoc research and analyses based on business needs

Job requirements

Minimum Qualifications & Skills

  • 7+ years of professional experience in market research, customer insights, data science, or related fields
  • Experience in research design using a combination of primary and secondary research, qualitative and quantitative methodsExperience with inferential and descriptive statistics
  • Knowledge of advanced analytical techniques, particularly:

 Conjoint Analysis

 Factor Analysis

 Clustering

  • Expertise in data analysis and statistical analysis software (e.g. Python, R, etc...)
  • Experience with SQL
  • Experience moderating in-depth interviews, focus groups, etc.
  • Expertise in survey design and analysis
  • Experience with programming surveys in survey instruments (e.g. SurveyMonkey, Qualtrics, etc…)
  • Experience managing and overseeing research vendors
  • Expertise in translating data into insights, and presenting/ socializing results with different audience types through verbal and written presentations
  • Experience working with sizeable datasets, survey data, and customer databases
  • Understanding of business strategy, go-to-market strategy, product strategy, and operations; demonstrated track record of collaborating with these teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Mandarin fluency
  • International work and research experience
