The HMC Women's Clinic has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time MEDICAL ASSISTANT. The Medical Assistant (MA) will assist the medical and nursing staff with care testing, injections, vital signs, procedure setup and support. Assist with technical procedures such as EKG, Retinal Eye Exams, O2 Sats, Wound Care, and Nebulizers. The MA role may include coordinating the clerical activities and supporting the front desk activities for patient care in the clinics and between clinic visits. Work includes occasional assistance with patient recall and/or QI/QA efforts in Pediatric Clinics, and a role in the closing procedures for both clinics, including setup for the next day's procedures.



Ensure exam rooms are stocked, clean and ready for patients

Greet patients and families and review patient needs with providers daily

Advocate for the patient/family by locating appropriate staff to address concerns

Prepare medical record for clinic visit. Verify presence of medical records and diagnostic testing (lab work and images) prior to scheduled appointments, requesting existing records and x-rays as necessary

Assist provider by facilitating use of technology including EMR (electronic medical records) and PACS (electronic imaging)

Coordinate communication flow in the clinics including answering and directing telephone inquiries to the appropriate individual

Coordinate clerical patient care activities and/or specialized technical duties unique to the assigned clinic to ensure accurate and expedited patient check-in and discharge, including obtaining consents for care and referral information

Take initiative to maintain patient flow for assigned providers/team.

Transport patients and lab specimens

Complete billing documents as appropriate

Schedule appointments for patients


Prepare patient for examination by the provider. Observe and document the patient’s physical and emotional condition and vital signs in the medical record, recognize and report symptoms of common medical illnesses to physician or nurse

Perform delegated patient care activities/education in accordance with established standards of practice

Assist during patient examinations and procedures performed by health care professionals

May withdraw venous blood and capillary blood

May give injectable medications


Greet patients and families

Review patient needs with providers daily, preferably at the start of each day or session

Advocate for the patient/family by locating appropriate staff to address concerns

Appropriately directs patients and others to other departments across the medical center

Demonstrate an atmosphere/attitude of respect for human dignity and the uniqueness of each person encountered in the clinic setting

Promote and protect general safety for patients/families/friends and co-workers through adherence to correct procedures, timely communication of messages and test results, and appropriate consultation

Act promptly and effectively during an emergency situation

Maintain/improve own professional competence, knowledge and skills to meet

identified self-learning needs and annual review requirements

Apply appropriate policies, procedures, protocols, and standards of practice in performing duties

Support development of clinic and divisional efficiency and effectiveness through participation in quality assessment and improvement activities

Demonstrate support for clinic and divisional policies and procedures

Promote and contribute to the development of team in clinic and working

relationships between the clinic and other departments/disciplines

Participate in orientation of new staff and preceptorship of MA students

Other duties as assigned


Completion of a Medical Assistant course accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) or other recognized regional or national accreditation board;


equivalent education/experience.

Legal Requirement:

Must be Washington State Medical Assistant-Certified or achieve this designation during the probationary period. Failure to achieve and/or maintain this designation will result in termination of employment.
