The UWMC University Reproductive Care and Endocrine Clinic has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time MEDICAL ASSISTANT. Medical Assistants (MAs) perform duties to assist health care professionals in the examination and treatment of patients, including: prepare the patient and the environment for treatment; meet the communication needs of patients and family; conduct basic diagnostic tests; provide patient care coordination, patient education and clerical/reception functions.



Monitor and manage the flow of patients in the clinic throughout the day

Demonstrate the ability to be organized and effectively prioritize work tasks for the needs of the clinic


Perform direct patient care procedures according to their level of education, certification, and clinic protocol

Provide skilled assistance to providers performing patient care procedures in the clinic

Perform vitals on all patients

Provide accurate, appropriate, and culturally sensitive education to clinic patients

Perform patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for patient’s age


Maintain infection control standards including hand hygiene and appropriate use of personal protective attire

Respond appropriately to patients in physical distress or emergency situations


Assist providers and RNs in the maintenance of clinic processes to ensure timely follow-up on reported test results

Assist with coordination of care including clarifying patient follow-up and scheduling patient appointments


Accurately and thoroughly document provision of patient care in a timely manner

Maintain, complete and submit required clinic reports and audits in a timely manner


Demonstrate general understanding of billing practices


Employ excellent customer service skills

Schedule appointment consistent with patient needs and clinic guidelines

May accept and process co-pays

Verify insurance electronically


Answer telephone in a professional, courteous, and efficient manner according to UWMC telephone service standards; directs calls as appropriate

Gather information on the telephone re:nature of patient concern; triage appropriately; may create telephone encounter in EpicCare

Communicate information about medical center programs to patients, referral agencies/providers, departments, and communities

Communicate basic information to patient such as insurance, parking, driving directions, etc.


Performs administrative duties as required by clinic needs

Review email daily to stay current with clinic communication

Maintain the physical environment for infection control and safety of staff and patients and for aesthetic presentation of the area

Respond to facility and environmental emergencies according to established procedures

Inventory and order office supplies, clinic supplies, forms

Sort and distribute faxes and mail on a daily basis

Ensure daily functioning of office equipment

Utilize on-line resources as required according to clinic practice and within University guidelines

Perform other related duties as required


Completion of a Medical Assistant course accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) or other recognized regional or national accreditation board;


equivalent education/experience.

Legal Requirement:

Must be Washington State Medical Assistant-Certified or achieve this designation during the probationary period. Failure to achieve and/or maintain this designation will result in termination of employment.
