This Equity Research Associate will work under the general direction of Equity Research Analysts. It is an exciting opportunity to begin your investment career working under our talented senior investors. The position directly supports the analysts’ investment research process. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to: the development and maintenance of financial models, regulatory filings / conference call reviews, survey construction / results interpretation and other company / industry specific research and due diligence. The role may require a limited amount of travel. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conducts research and analysis to help evaluate investment opportunities within the TMT sector.
  • Creates and maintains a variety of excel based financial models (company, industry/sector, macro).
  • Collects industry and company data through a variety of channels, including sell-side research firms, internal and external databases, trade publications, web scraping, and other online sources.
  • Reviews and organizes data, synthesizes information, and helps identify and analyze trends.
  • Creates and maintains various surveys and checks with industry participants. 
  • Independently exercises discretion in expanding assigned projects to enhance the stock selection process.
  • Applicant must be an engaging, highly ambitious self-starter.
  • Participates in the sector team weekly meeting, company management meetings and general investment team meetings. Applicant must have the desire to dialogue directly with senior executives of publicly traded companies.

Technical Skills and Qualifications

  • Four-year degree in finance, economics, accounting, computer science, engineering or related field required. 
  • Strong modeling skills required, with demonstrated proficiency in building and maintaining financial models to forecast future revenue, earnings and cash flows.
  • Advanced computer skills. MS Excel experience required.
  • Demonstrates intellectual curiosity, creativity, and analytical skills in areas of high complexity and uncertainty.
  • Multitasking and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and organize multiple projects in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to analyze financial data with the ability to accumulate, organize and assimilate large amounts of information.
  • Strong interpersonal and investigative skills, including the ability to probe for detail. 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Self-starter with the ability to work and make decisions independently.
  • Ability to collaborate and develop relationships to enable effective completion of business objectives.
  • Bloomberg and/or FactSet experience a plus.
  • Must demonstrate a strong interest in the markets and investing.
  • Prior consumer company experience a plus.
  • CFA certification or progress toward CFA certification a plus.

Ongoing competence in the role to be assessed by:

  • Annual performance appraisal.
  • Completion of all assigned compliance training. 

Working Environment/Physical Activities

  • Overtime may be required on short notice and may include evening, weekend, holiday hours.
  • Typical office environment with telephone, desktop computer, copier.
  • Occasional travel possible.
