Our growing team is looking for a motivated, confident and experienced leader to enable our Integrated Mission Systems Engineering (IMSE) team to create airborne, ground and maritime products and systems that make our war-fighters safer and more effective. If you are enthusiastic about this mission, we want you to join our team.

As a Principal Communications Systems Engineer, you will be working on communication solutions integrated on strategic platforms. The main responsibility is to focus on customer needs and requirements in order to design, develop, document and test hardware and software systems, ranging from black box to the extremely complex end-to-end platform systems.

Job Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Lead Communications Systems Engineer on the design and development of complex military communication systems
  • Technically plan, execute and manage their project tasks to meet programmatic needs
  • Develop platform use cases based on customer concept of operations through regular customer interaction
  • Create and present task status and technical solutions to team members, engineering leadership and customers
  • Develop communication systems requirements based on product, system level and customer requirements
  • Oversees the development of signal processing, waveform design, and analysis
  • Lead early project risk identification and development of mitigation plans
  • Adherence to the Collins Aerospace process methodologies while developing and managing commitments to meet engineering financial, schedule, and deliverables
  • Utilize experience and interpersonal skills to drive teams to success
  • Execute to developed Technical Program Metrics
  • Ability to work within a team environment to resolve complex issues

Basic Qualifications (Required)

  • This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in the appropriate discipline and 10 years of relevant experience or an Advanced degree in the appropriate discipline and 7 years of relevant experience.In the absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience is required.
  • Knowledge of full lifecycle design and development processes with practical experience in multiple phases of the system life cycle: requirements derivation, design, development, integration, validation/verification and sustainment
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with proposal writing and design presentation experience
  • Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering experience with SysML and/or UML
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the design of communications and RF subsystems
  • Comprehensive knowledge of link budget analysis, propagation theory, antennas, and RF Cosite Mitigation techniques
  • Comprehensive knowledge of antenna design, filters, and electromagnetic theory 
  • Experience with integration and test of ground and/or airborne platforms and communication systems
  • Experience with platform-level RF modeling and analysis tools (e.g. Ansys HFSS and EMIT)
  • Experience leading investigations for complex, systems-level problems and recommending solutions to address problems
  • Experience with leading the execution of projects. 
  • US citizenship with the ability to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance

Desired Qualifications

  • Able to investigate problems to the root cause and then champion the creation and implementation of corrective actions
  • Strong background in LF/VLF, HF, VHF/UHF subsystem design, integration and test
  • Working knowledge of bidding and project/task estimation tools (e.g. SEER products)
  • Demonstrated leadership of a team of Communication and RF Engineers in an Integrated Product Team (IPT) organizational structure
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks while balancing priorities and schedules and take technical direction from technical architecture and program management leadership
  • Experience with creating and executing test procedures to support the qualification of products to Government standards
  • Experience with Numerical Electromagnetics Code modeling
  • Motivated self-starter with strong analytical skills
  • Experience with Earned Value Management System (EVMS) methods
  • Active or current DoD Secret clearance with ability to obtain a Top Secret clearance
