Job Description:

Opportunity for an experienced Operations Quality Manager to provide Mission Assurance and Quality leadership for multiple value streams in the Andover, MA manufacturing center. These value streams build, integrate, and test highly complex sensing, communication, and power equipment. The Operations Quality Manager will be responsible for ensuring manufacturing execution to contractual, technical, and business requirements while Quality excellence and driving Mission Assurance. This individual will drive root cause analysis and facilitate the elimination of manufacturing, integration, interface, and Cost of Poor Quality (CoPQ) culminating in system acceptance.

At Raytheon Missiles & Defense (RMD), our Operations Quality Team assures product and process quality with an emphasis on Product Compliance, Customer Satisfaction, Prevention and Continuous Improvement. The Operations Quality Manager will be an accountable and active participant in both the Operations Quality and Manufacturing Area leadership. In this role you will interface with internal (DCMA) and external (DoD/MDA) customers.

Operations Quality scope includes process planning, inspection and test methodology, non-conforming material control, issue resolution, and continuous improvement of product and process quality at all phases of integration. These tasks are enhanced through a Defect Prevention mindset using data analysis and quality sciences to establish Root Cause and execute effective Corrective Action. As an experienced integration and quality professional the Operations Quality Manager will be expected to lead investigation teams, improvement initiatives, and achieve success in a matrixed environment. This includes the identification systemic drivers and leading continuous improvement efforts.

As a Front Line Leader (FLL), the Operations Quality Manager is an important member of the department leadership team. Responsibilities include developing, managing, and leading several quality engineers, ensuring that each employee has suitable work assignments, and provide coaching/mentoring to them to assist their personal growth and career advancement. The Operations Quality Manager is instrumental in executing company policies and employee management programs such as the annual performance development program, enhancing the skills and opportunities for each employee and the bench strength of the department by working to develop quality training plans and by providing mentoring and guidance. This position also provides technical oversight and direction to employees in support of their work assignment, as required.

Required Skills:

  • 8+ years of combined experience in Quality Assurance and/or Manufacturing Engineering, preferably with direct supervisor experience.
  • Experience with quality sciences; quality systems, and practical application of analytical skills in root cause analysis, corrective and preventive action at the product, customer and business levels.
  • Continuous Improvement Experience, preferably in a Quality Assurance, Manufacturing Design and/or Manufacturing Process Engineering environment
  • Experience working/interfacing with Customer Representatives (DCMA, DCAA, FAA, and/or Foreign representatives) or equivalent.
  • This position requires the eligibility to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance. Except in rare circumstances, only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

  • Excellent collaboration, verbal and written communications and interpersonal skills; ability to effectively persuade and influence through positive communications with stakeholders, team members, suppliers, management
  • Experience communicating complex engineering issues to all levels of the organization in a professional, engaging and conclusive manner.
  • Experience with quality systems, ISO9001/AS9100, MDA Assurance Provisions, quality concepts and general understanding of aerospace/defense regulations and standards.
  • ASQ Six Sigma Black Belt, Certified Manager of Quality & Operational Excellence (CMQ/OE), and/or Lean Certification
  • Advanced Quality Science and Root Cause tool experience, e.g., APQP, SPC, PFMEA
  • Experience in the project management related to Quality Planning, including First Articles, Testing, Inspection presentation of Major End Items to customers
  • Demonstrated employee development and talent management skills
  • Experience in Automation or Transition To Build (TTB)
  • Strong employee development and talent management skill

Required Education (including Major):

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science, Mathematics or STEM Discipline
