Job Description:
The Mechanical Product Teams Platform Integration Department, located at the Raytheon Missiles and Defense facility in Tewksbury, MA is currently seeking a Technical Writer who can help create technical documents and specifications as well as perform design checking of engineering work. The Mechanical Components Engineering (MCE) section is responsible for the selection, vetting, and documentation of mechanical components for a variety of DoD platforms. Responsibilities include:
- Editing and checking of engineering control documentation for clarity, completeness, conformity to standards, procedures, specifications, and accuracy of calculations and dimensioning.
- Ensuring Statement of work documents are accurate, complete and support program contractual requirements.
- Coauthoring engineering control documentation and specification in conformance with six section format, titles of sections, tables, figures, outlines, and paragraphing, acceptable abbreviations, and sentence writing per applicable military and industry standards.
- Investigating pertinent design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials and equipment, interchangeability, replaceability, strength-weight efficiency, and contractual specifications, requirements and cost.
- Modeling outline sketches of engineering control documents.
- Utilizing computer-aided design equipment to review 3D models and ensure they are depicted in conformance with engineering control drawing standards.
U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will need a U.S. Security Clearance within 1 year of start date.Except in rare circumstances, only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
Required Skills:
- Expertise of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Visio preferred).
- Experience and/ or knowledge of Department of Defense Standard Practice "Defense and Program-Unique Specification Format and Content", MIL-STD-961.
- 2 + years experience in a high performance technical writing design/drafting/checking capacity.
- Experience with developing process instructions.
Desired Skills:
- Experience with Technical Data Packages (TDPs) and Associated Lists per MIL-STD-31000.
- Experience with PTC Windchill 11 or similar configuration management system.
- Experience with Microsoft Outlook.
- A team player with a high level of initiative and the ability to work in an environment of rapidly changing priorities.
- Experience with 2D/3D CAD tools (i.e., AutoCAD, CREO, SolidWorks, or equivalent).
- Experience with applying Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing per ASME Y14.5M-1994.
- Excellent communication skills - both written and verbal.
- Ability to obtain a clearance
Required Education (including Major):
- B.S. in Technical Writing, Communication, or related degree
This position can be a salary grade level of G07 or G08 based on the candidate’s qualifications as they relate to the skills, experience and responsibilities required for the position.
