Role Overview

This position is for a Principal Systems Engineer on the Advanced Systems team in the Military Avionics and Helicopters (MA&H) Advanced organization. The Advanced Systems team is a research and development group responsible for supporting the maturation of key emerging technologies and differentiators required to position Collins Aerospace for both current and future growth opportunities; supporting our military and their partners. This includes, but is not limited to, advancements in next generation Human Machine Interface (HMI), helmet worn displays, flight management systems, communications management and vehicle control, personal electronic devices, robust training and simulation environments, and cyber security.

The Principal Systems Engineer will serve as the Future Mission Capabilities Chief Architect covering Flight Autonomy, Mission Autonomy, and Survivability & SA Solutions sub-teams. By combining their knowledge of the various Collins products/programs and their technology roadmaps with the Future Mission Capabilities team's objectives, the technical leader in this role will both build the future and set the path for today's solutions to get there.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Support development of system level proposals and participate on pursuit development strategy teams
  • Serve as system architect for highly complex and/or highly strategic development project teams
  • Develop technology roadmaps for future architectures and leverage existing product line roadmaps
  • Coordinate architecture concepts with execution teams
  • Manage and maintain technology roadmaps with internal and external stakeholders

Qualifications:

  • This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in the appropriate discipline (STEM degree highly preferred) and 10 years of relevant experience or an Advanced degree in the appropriate discipline and 7 years of relevant experience. In the absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience is required.
  • Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions.
  • Experience with design, requirements capture, development, and integration of complex military avionics software systems and hardware solutions is required.
  • Experience with avionics development processes such as (ARP4754, ARP4761, DO-254, DO-178).
  • Experience with systems/software modeling languages (SysML, UML, AADL, or equivalent).
  • Experience with visual modeling and design tools (Enterprise Architect or equivalent).
  • Experience with DoD open systems architecture and protocols (FACE, JCA, HOST, etc) is required.
  • Strong level of understanding of the Collins bid process
  • Experience in technical proposal writing - Make/Buy Decision-making and trade study experience
  • Innovative thinking with a strategic perspective
  • Creativity to develop new or novel ideas to solve problems
  • Networking across the organization
  • Ability to do customer presentations to influence direction
  • Strong communication skills - translate technical ideas into business concepts
  • Experience communicating with executive leadership
