Bring your Talent and Skills to our Technical Information Team. We are seeking a Senior Technical Editor / Writer at our Burlington, MA location.

The individual will work with other technical writers, logistic support personnel and system engineering organizations collecting and documenting system architecture, and developing applicable support technical manual documentation in accordance with defined standards and contractual requirements for a variety of complex equipment.

Examples of technical writer responsibilities are:

  • Developing simplified theory of operation and block diagrams for electrical, electronic, and mechanical equipment.
  • Developing fault isolation and troubleshooting procedures for electrical, electronic, and mechanical equipment.
  • Developing procedures and supporting illustrations supporting the inspection, test, removal, installation and repair of assemblies
  • Working with technical illustrator personnel in support of publication effort.
  • Working with desktop publishing personnel in support of publication effort.
  • Interfacing with customer engineering personnel to work out solutions to problems.

You will be expected to prepare structured documentation, participate in customer in-process reviews (IPR's), validations and verifications and must be willing to travel (10%).

We are looking for someone who is a well-organized self-starter, who is able to work in a team environment, has good communication and technical skills, and can professionally interact with other organizations.

Required Skills:

Candidate must have at least 2 years of demonstrated experience in developing military or commercial operation, maintenance, modification and /or parts manuals. Experience in the development of structured documents using SGML, XML and HTML or other mark-up languages is required. Knowledge of basic electronics and troubleshooting techniques is required along with knowledge of basic mechanical components and assembly processes, tools, nuts, bolts, lubrication and cleaning techniques.

Candidates must have understanding of software engineering principles as well as the ability to read, understand and interpret engineering documentation including engineering drawings and schematic diagrams..

Candidates must have good verbal and writing skills. Basic knowledge in the preparation, editing and grammar is required.

Proficiency using Microsoft Office software products including Word is required.

Must be willing and able to travel occasionally for business purposes.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. DoD Security Clearance.

Desired Skills:

Military experience in training or technical manual product development, delivery and standards is a plus.

Experience in use of publications content management and development of modularized content is desired. Understanding and experience in MIL-STD-40051-1/-2 is a plus. Understanding of Logistics Management Information (LMI) and the use in the development of the technical documentation is also a plus.

Familiarity in use of modeling, animation and CAD tools such as Pro-Engineer, AutoCAD, Right Hemisphere and Solid Works is a plus.

Required Education:

A BS degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Journalism, Electrical and Computer Science Engineering and Mechanical Engineering Technology. OR Technical School graduation in a Graphics Arts field and at least 2 years experience in the technical documentation field OR military technical schooling and/or experience, which includes experience in the electronics or technical documentation field.
