Job Description:

  • Perform complex mechanical design, development, and documentation of components, sub-assemblies, and major end items for defense system equipment in accordance with system requirements
  • Oversee small to mid-sized cross functional engineering teams as a technical execution lead through all phases of development from proposal generation, program start up, requirements allocation, preliminary and detailed development, through production.
  • Lead the mechanical or cross functional engineering team as the technical focal point within an integrated product team environment
  • Support the factory and suppliers with product integration domestically and internationally
  • Interface with other engineering disciplines, non-technical disciplines, and suppliers to develop design solutions and resolve technical challenges
  • Work with limited supervision and meet commitments for assigned schedule, financial, and technical goals
  • Support and participate in design peer reviews and conduct trade studies to make sound technical decisions
  • Apply knowledge and experience in technical problem solving and hardware development in a fast paced, team environment
  • Mentor and guide less experienced engineers
  • U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will need a U.S. Security Clearance within 1 year of start date. Except in rare circumstances, only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Required Qualifications:

  • Six (6)+ years of experience in a Mechanical Engineering role with minimum three (3) years designing and developing mechanical equipment, preferably for use in Military environments Previous experience including concept definition through detailed design and transition to production and production support
  • Broad background in mechanical design, development, material selection, or manufacturing processes
  • Experience with CAD design tools or associated product data management tools
  • Engineering project management experience or schedule and budget responsibility

Desired Skills:

  • Provide direction to a team of engineers in the development of Radar products. Responsibilities include:
  1. Planning, monitoring, maintaining, and executing program plans (schedule, budget, status).
  2. Technical leadership of multidisciplinary team
  3. Ensure development efforts are in compliance with internal and customer/industry standards
  4. Effective communication
  5. Present during technical and program reviews to both internal and external customers.
  6. Knowledge and experience with Configuration Control board and Material Review Boards
  7. Familiarity with managing engineering budgets with Earned Value Management (EVMS) and Estimate at Complete (EAC) process
  8. Subcontract/supplier management
  9. Electronic packaging experience
  10. Demonstrated expertise and currency within several disciplines.
  • Mentors other employees. Diverse and comprehensive academic knowledge and analytical skills capabilities. Able to solve difficult engineering / analytical issues.
  • Coordinates and executes multiple tasks, which may span separate projects or programs and are occasionally outside of individual's discipline.
  • Draws upon significant engineering experience to Identify and support critical task areas. Demonstrates sound engineering judgement coupled with wall developed problem solving skills.
  • Individual takes on a diverse roles within functional organization, such as providing technical guidance within team or section, conducting peer reviews or leading process improvement teams.
  • Leads the efforts of several engineers as a team or functional lead on a program. Represents the organization as the prime technical contact on a project.
  • As Individual contributor, demonstrates willingness to stretch performance in taking on new responsibilities, which may require extensive personal commitment, persistence and extra effort to accomplish.
  • Willingness to travel (domestic and international)
  • Excellent communication, technical writing, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Working knowledge of Military and Commercial Specifications
  • Experience in design, fabrication, and integration of electronic assemblies, shelter assemblies, power distribution equipment packaging, and rack systems
  • Experience using CREO CAD design and documentation tools
  • Experience with PDM or similar product data management tool
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word/Excel/Power Point/Project)
  • Reliability or failure analysis experience
  • Desire and ability to work in a fast paced production environment
  • Able to work well with people and achieve results with a minimum of conflicts and within schedule
  • Experience in supporting or leading proposals
  • Familiarity with Risk & Opportunity Management
  • Advanced degree in mechanical engineering, or hardware systems design
  • Existing secret clearance

Required Education:

BS in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field
