The Raytheon Technologies Space Systems Engineering organization within the Systems Engineering Center (SEC) is currently seeking a Lead Systems Engineer (LSE) for a Space Protection program. We are looking for a Lead Systems Engineer who brings space systems leadership, engineering, capture, and proposal experience to a growth-oriented organization. Prior experience in Electro-Optical and Infrared (EOIR) payload design, development, testing, and operations is expected. This role will leverage knowledge of the EOIR payload design process, including initial concept development, sensor-level trades, requirements definition, and performance assessment. The job responsibilities may include utilization of model-based systems engineering (MBSE) tools.

In this position, the candidate will be responsible for assessing payload performance against requirements to identify technical risks, manufacturing risks, and cost drivers. The LSE will influence the technical performance of all Systems Engineering activities and will assume the responsibility of all engineering decisions impacting payload development, integration, verification, and work products delivery while ensuring the product meets all technical specifications, operational requirements and customer expectations. The LSE will be responsible for the generation and management of artifacts associated with a Technical Baseline which include Technical Performance Metrics (TPMs) / Key Performance Parameters (KPPs), operational views, architectures, compliance matrices, system specifications, interface requirements specifications and system designs. The LSE’s responsibilities include:

  • Creation of all SE work products and associated analyses that document the system design
  • Creation of work products that include performance specifications, interface control documents, associated trade studies and analyses, use cases/functional descriptions, measures of effectiveness, technical performance measures,
  • Initial design implementations and technical oversight of the system to ensure system integrity during the development, integration and test
  • Ensuring systems engineering (SE) technical integrity
  • Generation of SE and technical CDRLs
  • Providing technical direction to the Responsible Systems Engineers (RSE’s)
  • Ownership of systematic issues, overall Systems team efficiency, and training
  • Approve requirements changes
  • Manage anomaly resolution
  • Be the gatekeeper for technical reviews

Required Skills:

  • 10+ years systems engineering experience with at least 5 years working space systems engineering
  • Experience with requirements development, flowdown, design, test planning and execution, data analysis, verification and validation, and operations support
  • Leadership skills to develop proposals for Government customers
  • Ability to work independently, determine and develop approaches to solutions
  • Experience in preparing and delivering briefings to management and customers
  • Evidence of problem solving and time management skills
  • Experience working with multi-disciplined teams
  • Excellent presentation skills and negotiation skills
  • Active DoD Top Secret clearance
  • Ability to access to US only data systems
  • U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position needs an active U.S. Security Clearance as of Day 1 of employment.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience providing technical leadership to an engineering team throughout the entire product life cycle
  • Experience generating systems engineering products to architect a conceptual payload architecture
  • Experience in Model Based System Engineering tools for developing architectures and functional analysis.
  • Experience leading development, systems engineering, and testing of electro-optical space systems
  • Experience developing EOIR payload electronic modules
  • Engineering leadership experience with space imaging technology
  • Experience with modeling and simulation of space systems
  • Experience in IV&V planning, test methodologies and test requirements development for space systems
  • Experience in environmental test methods
  • IPTL & EVMS experience
  • Ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with all levels of the organization
  • Knowledge of US Export/Import law in regards to space technologies

Required Education:

Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline such as in Engineering, Sciences, or Mathematics

Desired Education:

Master's Degree in a STEM discipline such as in Engineering, Sciences, Mathematics, or Management

U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will require the ability to access US only data systems.
