Job Description: Principle Engineer - CCA/PCB Design

The Radar Controls and Electronics Department in the Electrical Products Directorate at Raytheon Missiles & Defense (RMD) is seeking an Electrical Engineer with strong mixed signal PCB design skills. The candidate should have experience designing embedded processor circuit boards using CAD tools. She/He should also have successfully implemented designs in fielded systems, and constructed test and integration plans. The candidate must have a proven track record of meeting system requirements, schedule deadlines, and project budgets. Responsibilities will require working within a team of engineers developing designs based on modeling and simulations. The candidate should expect to work with Systems Engineers and other development team members in translating system performance and operational specifications into hardware requirements, design, and test specifications. The relevant digital electronic system designs include signal processing, command and control, communications, and user interfaces for military applications.

U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will need a U.S. Security Clearance within 1 year of start date.

Applicant will work as part of a highly motivated team environment, and will be collaborating with cross-functional project teams making up a larger program or internal research and development efforts. Our engineers are assigned to a manager of approximately 20 employees with similar skills. Each section manager is responsible for their members’ performance, career development, and assigning tasks that balance the employees’ interests with current needs of the project teams.

Required Skills:

  • At least 8 years of experience in the design and implementation of mixed signal electronic circuits and systems
  • A history of successfully fielding and troubleshooting a variety of systems including custom designed processor and/or FPGA based circuit boards
  • Experience using engineering CAD tools such as Mentor Graphics DxDesigner for the design of complex circuit board assemblies
  • Experience implementing high speed memory (DDR3 or DDR4) and high speed SERDES designs
  • Signal Integrity analysis skills including experience using tools such as Hyperlynx SI
  • Use of Power Integrity analysis tools such as Mentor’s Hyperlynx PI
  • Experience working in a laboratory environment using logic analyzers and oscilloscopes to test and verify the functions of digital and mixed signal circuits and systems

Desired Skills:

  • Experience implementing low noise, low voltage, high current, power regulation designs
  • Experience giving technical direction, delegating to and overseeing small teams
  • Open to mentoring junior and senior PCB designers
  • A history of successfully addressing thermal challenges
  • Experience implementing > 1 GHz A/D Converter Designs
  • Experience with PCI Express Gen3/4 and 100 Gigabit Ethernet SERDES a plus
  • Experience with Intel Xeon embedded processors and Nvidia GPUs a plus
  • Experience with Intel Stratix 10 FPGAs a plus
  • Embedded system design experience utilizing microprocessors and microcontrollers along with C code based programming
  • Some FPGA development and verification skills using SystemVerilog, OVM, or VHDL with some experience with vendor logic synthesis tools (such as Xilinx Vivado)
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, and the ability to function effectively as part of a larger team
  • Advanced Degree in Electrical Engineering or a STEM Major is a plus
