The Whole Life Engineering Directorate (WLED) is made up of several disciplines whose main objective is to influence hardware and systems early in their life cycle to assure effective operation, reliability, maintainability and economical ownership by the customer and end user.

WLED seeks a Technical Illustrator who will develop graphics, illustrations and simple animations for technical manuals.

As a Technical Illustrator, you’re responsible for the development and execution of vector-based line graphics sourced from Computer Aided Design (CAD) 3-D models, supporting operator, maintainer and depot maintenance activities and training requirements across multiple product lines.

In this role, you’ll promote interactions with both technical writers and subject matter experts to help produce and generate an integrated technical publications solution, and you may also participate in peer reviews, technical manual validations/verifications, customer-partnering events and budget and schedule compliance.

This job is located at our Marlborough, MA facility, but may require local travel to our other New England offices.

This position can be a salary grade G08 or G09 based on the candidate's qualifications as they relate to the skills, experience, education and responsibility requirements for the position.

This position requires the eligibility to obtain a security clearance. Except in rare circumstances, only US Citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Required Skills

  • 4+ years of professional experience developing graphics, illustrations and/or simple animations for technical manuals in a military or civilian environment
  • At a Grade G08, 2+ years of experience in the aforementioned areas along with a relevant Master's Degree may be considered for this job.
  • At a Grade G09, 4+ years of experience in the aforementioned areas along with a relevant Master's Degree may be considered for this job
  • Experience using, manipulating and/or exporting artifacts from 3-D CAD models
  • US Citizenship is required

Desired Skills

  • Experience developing vector-based technical illustrations for commercial or military hardware technical manuals
  • Experience with developing illustrations in accordance with a standard such as S1000D, military specifications (MIL-SPEC) or in accordance with multiple specifications, such as MIL-STD 3031, MIL-STD 40051-1 and -2, 2361, MIL-PRF 38784, MIL-DTL 24784, SCORM, TRADOC 350-70, NAVAIR INSTRUCTION 13034, MIL-HDBK 29612, MIL-HDBK 1222, and others.
  • Familiarity with CGM Version 4, EPS, or WMF/EMF output files
  • Experience with NGRAIN simulation software and/or basic computer animation skills
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, PTC IsoDraw, or similar software
  • Experience using, manipulating, and exporting artifacts from 3-D CAD models, using PTC Creo, Solidworks, Autodesk, or other CAD-based software
  • Understanding of Earned Value fundamentals and/or project budgetary management experience
  • Knowledge of export control regulations (ITAR/EAR)
  • Experience with the Agile development process/environment
  • Demonstrate effective leadership and influential skills, interpersonal skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, team building skills, and multitasking skills

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree (Bachelor of fine arts (BFA), or graphics design degree is preferred but not required).
  • 8+ years of relevant field/practical experience (such as experience developing technical illustrations) may be considered in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree.
