Raytheon Missiles & Defense is the world’s largest missile producer responsible for the design, test, manufacturer, and support of weapon systems supporting our US Warfighter and international allies. Every missile system contains a set of advanced and purpose designed electrical subsystems. These enable the guidance, navigation, RF communication, signal processing, target detection and tracking system functions. The Electrical Product Team - Subsystems Center is responsible for all aspects of these subsystems design, test and production.

The RF & Navigation Engineering organization has a need for a Section Head responsible for first line management of a group of 6-10 RF and Electrical Engineers who have varying levels of experience and diverse domain expertise with various RF subsystems including Data Link subsystems.

U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position needs an active U.S. Security Clearance as of day one of employment.

The specific responsibilities and duties include:

  • Plan and track staff’s project assignments
  • Support staff with career development plans
  • Assist with strengthening core engineering skills and discipline, and developing domain knowledge and expertise across the RFN Engineering organization
  • Prepare staff performance evaluations
  • Assist in planning for and addressing RFN staffing needs
  • Assist and support recruiting and interviewing activities
  • Assist with ensuring staff’s compliance with company policies/procedures.

The successful candidate will manage engineers who are involved with development of deliverable RF subsystems over the entire engineering development lifecycle. This leader will also contribute directly to development and other technical efforts as a task lead or individual contributor. Although the section staff will typically work on independent projects, the Section Head will foster collaboration and cross-fertilization of ideas and new technologies within the group.

The Section Head’s duties will occupy an average of ~15% time. The other ~ 85% time will be spent on a combination of contractual, IR&D, marketing, and business development activities.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 6 years of engineering experience with progressing leadership roles
  • Experience in analysis, test, measurement or integration of RF products or systems
  • Experience leading a technical team (e.g. in the role of task lead/ IPTL or Engineer Lead)
  • Applicant must have an Active DoD Secret Clearance
  • U.S Citizenship is required

Desired Skills:

  • MS in Engineering, Science, Mathematics or Equivalent
  • Practical experience in all phases of the product development lifecycle
  • Experience in development and support of RF guidance systems
  • Coaching, teaching and/or mentoring skills
  • Strong emotional intelligence skills (i.e., self-awareness, self-management, empathy, social awareness, relationship management)
  • Experience in creation and/or improvement of engineering development processes
  • Excellent track record for working effectively and collaboratively in a diverse team environment
  • Excellent organizational, planning, and coordination skills
  • Strong engineering development discipline and process advocacy
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to acquire a Special Access Programs Clearance

Required Education:

B.S. in Engineering, Science, or Mathematics. (STEM degree)

This position requires the eligibility to obtain a security clearance, up to and including Special Access Programs. Non-US citizens may not be eligible to obtain a security clearance. The Defense Industrial Security Clearance Office (DISCO), an agency of the Department of Defense, handles and adjudicates the security clearance process. Security clearance factors include, but are not limited to, allegiance to the US, foreign influence, foreign preference, criminal conduct, security violations and drug involvement. Employment is contingent on other factors, including, but not limited to, background checks and drug screens.
