The Whole Life Engineering Directorate (WLE) is responsible for ensuring our products are Safe, Reliable, Maintainable, and delivered on time. WLE consists of multiple disciplines that support engineering, our program offices and our customers. Our WLE disciplines participate in the total life cycle of our products from conception to deactivation. Our focus area is product support, which includes the following disciplines: reliability, system safety, and supportability.
The System Safety Engineering Department is seeking a Human Systems Integration (HSI) Engineer. The System Safety Engineering Department is responsible for ensuring all RTX products are reliably safe through all phases of the product lifecycle. In addition, the System Safety Engineering Department is responsible for providing Human Systems Integration support to the development of RTX products across the HSI domains of: Human Factors Engineering, Manpower, Personnel, Training, Survivability, Safety, and Habitability.
The HSI Engineer will work with low to moderate direction from the Program and will exercise considerable latitude in technical decisions to meet customer HSI requirements. The HSI Engineer will represent the organization as a key member of the program(s), which they support, to include identifying key HSI issues and addressing them with optimal solutions, considering cost, schedule and technical parameters. The HSI Engineer will become the program’s resident expert regarding the following standards and associated requirements: MIL-STD 1472 (Human Engineering); MIL-STD 46855A (Human Engineering
Requirements for Military Systems, Equipment, and Facilities). The HSI Engineer should also have experience in the domain of Human Factors Engineering, to include human factors engineering support to the design and evaluation of system graphical user interfaces, as well as physical ergonomics and space layouts. In addition, the HSI Engineer should have familiarity in the domains, Manpower, and Personnel, with an understanding of how to assess manpower/personnel requirements associated with new system designs.
This position requires a high degree of self-motivation, communications and interpersonal skills to interface effectively with team members, RTX, and external Program office customers; and the ability to prepare for and present HSI program status and results to internal and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform HSI engineering tasks and analyses, applying technical knowledge to meet RTX and customer requirements across HSI Domains (Human Factors Engineering; Manpower; Personnel; Training; Survivability; Safety; and Habitability) Interpretation of system requirements, customer specifications and military standards to develop appropriate HSI requirements for incorporation into system design.
Prepare internal and customer reports describing various analyses relevant to the HSI Program. Serve as a key member of the program(s) systems engineering team, responsible for identifying key HSI issues and addressing them to achieve optimal technical solutions
U.S. Citizenship status is required, as this position will need a U.S. Security Clearance within 1 year of start date.
