RIS’s Hardware and Infrastructure (HW&I) Engineering Organization is currently seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer for its Construction Engineering Group. This individual will provide technical expertise and leadership for the design and construction of facility power and distribution systems. The Construction Engineering Group is a team of construction professionals tasked with designing and deploying high tech Raytheon Technology and Customer systems around the world. The design team is comprised of civil, electrical, and mechanical licensed professional engineers specializing in facility design within the radar, air traffic control, Airport and border security, and telecommunications infrastructure environment. Typical tasks include site layout and design, facility design, systems transition, integration planning, construction management, systems installation, integration, system optimization, testing, system maintenance, and logistics support. The customer sites for these projects are typically government sites with agencies such as DoD, FAA, TSA, DTRA, or Homeland Security, along with multiple foreign governments and customers.

As a Principal Electrical Engineer, you will develop, plan, and design facility components including power, controls, communications, fire alarm, and security, which will include construction drawings and specifications, cost and quantity estimates, and analysis (power distribution, engine generators, load banks, UPS’s, load analysis etc). You will survey customer facilities and document existing conditions for proposed electrical facility upgrades. You should be familiar with the NEC, NFPA, and Life Safety codes. You will be responsible for technical coordination, as well as cost and schedule performance of the project design. Additionally, you will provide direction and consultation on electrical issues at various sites and be responsible for technical work performed by subordinate level engineers. You should be able to work effectively in a team setting and work with minimal technical direction and at a high level of independence in resolving technical problems and establishing the approach for a solution.

Required Skills:

  • 8 years’ experience and registered as a Professional Engineer in at least one state.
  • Experience in facilities power distribution, controls, communications, fire alarm, and security engineering.
  • Experience with the development of data, calculations, drawings, and specifications to permit the detailed layout and construction of complex designs.
  • Solid working knowledge of the NEC code.
  • Excellent understanding of basic building code requirements and of general construction practices, including new facility construction, upgrades of existing facilities, and other related construction work.
  • Experience managing and directing other engineers on both technical direction as well as performance reviews and personnel mentoring.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-task environment, have good project management and strong communication skills, and be comfortable in performing presentations for customers as well as internal leadership.
  • Willingness and ability to travel about 20-30% of the time to various construction sites at domestic or international locations.
  • Ability to obtain Security clearance at the secret level

Desired Skills:

  • Prior airport facility design, FAA/DoD, remote facility, and computer room facilities.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, with other Autodesk products and Microstation.
  • Experience with SKM software, short circuit calculations, lightning protection and grounding design / testing. Experience with peers reviews, submittals and project closeout.
  • Data center experience.
  • Knowledge of UPS systems, power conditioners and frequency converters.
  • Working knowledge of the UFC (Unified Facilities Criteria) codes.

Education Requirements:

  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM), or related STEM degree program from an Accredited University/School/College with and 8+ years of related work experience
