Job Description:

Opportunity to work in Materials and Process Engineering within the Mechanical Products Team (MPT). This position will offer a qualified candidate the opportunity to engage subject matter experts and perform hands-on-testing of materials in addition to perform hands-on-testing of adhesives, polymers, tapes, composites, metals, and various other production materials. The primary responsibilities will include assessing materials based on conformance to specifications as well as conducting testing if required. This will involve following standard written protocols utilizing databases, physically testing samples for verification analysis, certification review of accompanying documentation, evaluation of obsolescence risk, engagement with subject matter experts to understand usage, assessment of specifications and engagement with suppliers. Tasks will require careful attention to detail on repetitive procedures. Due to the physical nature of the work, qualified candidates must also be able to lift 22 lbs. Collaboration with engineers, subject matter experts, and suppliers is required. Candidate must be able to manage and coordinate a wide variety of simultaneous tasks within set schedule requirements. This candidate will become part of a multi-disciplined team.

U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position needs an active U.S. Security Clearance as of day one of employment.

Required Education and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry or related field from an accredited curriculum (STEM) degree. Must be either currently pursuing degree or degree must have been granted in the last 18 months.
  • Experience with laboratory equipment such as: ovens, thermometers, calipers, reading dials, and Vernier scales.
  • Experience with material testing/analysis such as: Hardness, adhesion tests, sample preparation procedures, cross sectioning
  • Experience with Analytical Chemistry and Instrumental Analysis.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

Other Requirements:

  • This position requires the eligibility to obtain a security clearance. Except in rare circumstances, only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Desired Education and Skills:

  • ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard with a minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Experience with material safety datasheets and Military Specifications
  • Experience with Instrumental Analysis such as: FTIR, DSC, DMA, TGA, GCMS, HPLC, GPC
  • Class projects, professional internships, or academic research demonstrating the ability to apply technical course work in Material Science and Chemistry
  • Current/Active DoD clearance or SSBI
