The Whole Life Engineering Directorate (WLED) is made up of several disciplines whose main objective is to influence hardware and systems early in their life cycle to assure effective operation, reliability, maintainability and economical ownership by the customer and end user.

As a Technical Writer, you will work with other technical writers, logistic support personnel and system engineering organizations. Your responsibilities will include collecting and documenting system architecture, and developing applicable support technical manual documentation in accordance with defined standards and contractual requirements for a variety of complex equipment.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Developing simplified theory of operation and block diagrams for electrical, electronic, and mechanical equipment
  • Developing fault isolation and troubleshooting procedures for electrical, electronic, and mechanical equipment
  • Developing procedures and supporting illustrations supporting the inspection, test, removal, installation and repair of assemblies
  • Working with technical illustrator personnel in support of publication effort
  • Working with desktop publishing personnel in support of publication effort
  • Interfacing with customer engineering personnel to work out solutions to problems
  • Development of Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETMs) using the Eagle Publishing System
  • Periodic domestic and international travel

This job is based out of our Tewksbury, MA facility, but may require local travel to our other New England offices.

This position requires the eligibility to obtain a security clearance. Except in rare circumstances, only US Citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

This position can be a Salary Grade G09 or a Salary Grade G10 based on the candidate's qualifications as they relate to the skills, experience and responsibility requirements for the position.

Required Skills:

  • 6+ years’ experience creating written technical or non-technical documentation
  • At a Grade G09, 4+ years of experience in the aforementioned areas along with a relevant Master's Degree may be considered for this job.
  • At a Grade G10, 6+ years of experience in the aforementioned areas along with a relevant Master's Degree may be considered for this job
  • US Citizenship is required

Desired Skills:

  • Related experience in logistics support, system fielding and implementation or project or program life cycle management
  • Experience writing specifications for technical publications
  • Experience with Data Module Publishing Systems used to produce Technical Manuals (TM) and Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETM)
  • Experience with Extensible Markup Language (XML) Editors
  • Experience with S-1000Dinternational specification for technical publication or MIL-STD- 40051-1/2
  • Experience with Enhanced Automated Graphical Logistics Environment (EAGLE) and/or Eagle Publishing System (EPS)
  • Understanding of Logistics Management Information (LMI) and the use in the development of technical documentation
  • Prior technical leadership experience and leading other team members during problem resolution
  • Prior experience developing technical documentation for the Department of Defense or foreign military customers
  • Experience with presentations and data analysis skills
  • Six Sigma Specialist (or other similar certification)

Required Education:

  • BS in a STEM discipline or BA in Mathematics, Computer Science, Chemistry or Physics.
