Vector Control Technician Sign In OCONUS-Iraq- Basra OCONUS-Iraq- Basra More (-8) Apply View Application More (-9) Supporting the Most Exciting and Meaningful Missions in the World                 Vector Control Technician         Overview: The Vector Control Technician will be assigned to the US Consulate General Basrah (BSH) in Basrah, Iraq. The technician will take ownership of all BSH vector and pest control services. This position reports to the BSH Vector Control Supervisor or the Site Services Manager.   Responsibilities:     The duties and responsibilities listed below are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all inclusive.   DUTIES:   - Performs pest and vector control services as required for controlling: - Small rodents - Insects - Termites - Other animals deemed to be a problem within the environment of Basrah compound or the airport terminal area. - Responsible for scheduled and unscheduled inspections. - Reports any problems or lack of compliance with Statement of Work (SOW) to the Site Services manager - Assists in developing the Statement of Work (SOW) when requested - Maintains effective, timely and respectful communication and interaction with other employees, managers, and supports other organizations. - Performs other administrative tasks including material ordering, inventory, work scheduling - Collects, analyzes and summarizes data for report preparation and submits written reports - Maintains the appropriate technical library and record-keeping which documents all procedures necessary to accomplish assigned responsibilities - Responsible for facility custodianship of vector and pest control work area and management of tools, equipment and spare parts. - Must be able to take initiative to analyze a situation and to make frequent technical decisions based on specifications, safety and electrical codes. - Must be able to evaluate operational effectiveness and develop/maintain effective operational control mechanisms. - Performs other duties and special projects as assigned. - Performs pest and vector control services as required for controlling pests immediately outside BSH if these pests are impacting operations or U.S. government (USG) staff stationed immediately outside the compound. - Ensures all insecticides and chemicals meet Department of State (DOS) Safety, Health and Environmental Management (SHEM) and Office of Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards for safety - Makes revisions to the pest control plan as directed by the USG - Responsible for the application of chemical solution and/or powders or toxic gases and the placing of mechanical traps to kill pests that infest rooms, work areas, buildings and surrounding areas - Responsible for the placement of poisonous paste or bait and mechanical traps where pests are present - Responsible for the cleaning of areas that harbor pests using rakes, brooms, shovels, and mops      Qualifications:   EXPERIENCE: - The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five years general vector and pest control experience with a minimum of three years’ experience in an overseas setting. - Training and experience with SHEM and OSHA vector and pest control agents is highly desirable   REQUIRED:   - Education: A high school diploma or GED is required. Completion of an Apprentice program or other training leading to a license in pest and vector control is required. - Security Vetting:  Already possess a Moderate Risk Public Trust (MRPT) or be able to obtain a favorable MRPT certification prior to be hired is required for this position. Must maintain eligibility at the required security level for the duration of the contract. - Language Skills: Strong professional English communication skills, both oral and written. - Citizenship: US Citizenship is not required for this position.  - Medical: Favorable passage of a drug screen and physical examination. - Driver’s License: Valid Driver’s License from Home of Record (HOR)   DESIRED:   - Relevant overseas vector and pest control experience - Experience working with PAE. - Experience working with SOW, sub-contractors, budgets, estimating, working drawings and as-built designs.     OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: - Knowledge of all principles and processes involved in vector and pest control functions at an overseas facility. - Knowledge of principles and processes for providing excellent customer service. - Ability to work in a fast-paced environment that requires handling multiple tasks at a given time and rapidly adapting to changing priorities and schedules. - Cross-cultural sensitivity with an international perspective. - Excellent organizational and time management skills. - Expert computer skills, specifically in Microsoft Word and Excel. - Ability to become an active and functioning member of a team. - Must have the ability to be innovative and be an agent for change. - Expert communication skills to facilitate and disseminate information.         An Equal Opportunity Employer.
