The Role:

The Senior Director, Data Science provides oversight and management of Symphony Health’s Data Operations and Data Management business areas, including all data that is ingested, processed, and validated for commercialized use as well as client delivery. This is a visionary leader who will work closely with the Symphony Health Executive Team and who has a clear vision of operational needs. The Senior Director will be expected to create and execute corporate strategy for Symphony Health, focused on creating a data driven organization with operational excellence.

Business Development:

  • Build and develop relationships with Client Directors and Business Development, ensuring that client and overall data proposition is relevant and aligns with strategy direction
  • Grow product delivery revenue organically by cross selling and up selling value add analytical products across clients and verticals

Operational:

  • Provide leadership and management that mirrors the mission and core values
  • Responsible for the measurement and effectiveness of all processes internal and external
  • Create best-in-class operations and process models across Symphony’s business segments including workflow management, resource planning within operations & delivery
  • Drive project management capabilities to ensure implementation of new data policy standards
  • Sets data policies, procedures, structure, standards to effectively manage data assets and client deliverables
  • Participate in regular reviews, including progress towards compliance of data elements, data domains, data quality issues, scorecard metrics and other data requirements in conjunction with Data Governance standards
  • Develop new KPIs and metrics to track overall health of data management, leveraging best practices
  • Responsible for working with business data owners in the selection and submission of authorized data sources, identification of critical data elements and data quality business rules.
  • Establish and maintain process and procedures for data quality requirements. Responsible for tracking and remediation of all data quality issues and data incidents. Monitors data quality issues in alignment with policy, establish metrics for reviews of all data incidents.
  • Advise on requirements for collection and use of data in a variety of contexts and products, including new and emerging products and business models.
  • Help enforce company policies related to data privacy and security, working collaboratively with Product and other business units
  • Drive implementation of regulatory and compliance initiatives such as developing project plans to manage product-related changes or respond to changes in applicable laws
  • Support various business functions in identifying data flows and documenting data flow maps as part of global privacy compliance program

Strategic:

  • Set a vision for the growth of the data operations business unit in alignment with leadership, proactively establishing and achieving milestones along its trajectory
  • Drive a culture of ‘always on’ data-driven decision making that will institutionalize the use of commercial data analytics in all facets of business
  • Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders and groups, gathering requirements for how data can supply each internal team with the data and insights needed to fuel team performance, and facilitating synergy between the Strategy, Product Management and Business Development teams that manage day-to-day client business
  • Support the evolution, roadmap and market positioning of Symphony Health, by synthesizing data from all data suppliers, empowering the business to understand trends, insights and opportunities across its portfolio
  • Designs and implements a coordinated internal and external data strategy
  • Develops roles and responsibilities including decision rights and accountability in each department and across the organization.
  • Determines structure for compliance management and enforces rules of engagement
  • Establishes enterprise wide and department appropriate stands and conventions
  • Spearhead the development, communication and implementation of effective growth strategies and processes

Financial:

  • Maximize Symphony’s operating performance and achieving its financial goals
  • Ensure the continued financial viability of Symphony Health’s operational delivery unit through fiscal management.

Experience Needed:

  • 15+ years of professional experience, including at least 7 years of senior management experience, in a high-performing organization, preferably in healthcare or life sciences
  • 5+years of experience with healthcare data management standards and practices, leading Data Governance programs and operations in healthcare or life sciences, and in-depth knowledge of the data privacy space
  • Background of developing and executing data privacy strategies including embedding these into ways of working
  • Strong leadership experience working in an enterprise or cross-functional role.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proven project management leadership
  • Experience in performance management metrics.
  • Demonstrable ability to coordinate cross functional teams of legal, product, IT and other key stakeholders.
  • Experience with SQL, relational databases, Python and Snowflake, as well as a solid understanding of data science and machine learning
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Based in the US and able to travel as needed for the role
