Job Description Summary

The Manager, Benefits is responsible for the oversight of the strategy and administration of employee benefit plans, including executive and physician programs. Serves as the primary contact for all employees regarding benefit plan inquiries and advises staff regarding plan provisions and processes. Collaborates with HR leadership, vendors and third party administrators in the development, communication and presentation of benefit programs.

Job Description

The Manager, Benefits will:

  • Participate in the development, execution and communication of benefit strategies and programs.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of current benefit programs and communication to employees, developing new or modified communications to enhance employee understanding.
  • Function as informational resource for benefit programs to employees and representatives of outside organizations, ensuring that policies, procedures and practices are executed fairly and consistently.
  • Coordinate distribution of information to employees regarding new benefit programs or changes in existing programs.
  • Educate new employees regarding benefit programs; conduct new employee orientation presentation of benefit programs.
  • Coordinate annual employee Benefit Open Enrollment process, preparing materials and communications, conducting meetings and processing benefit changes.
  • Ensures HRIS data integrity related to employee benefit elections and dependent information. Audit and ensure maintenance of accurate employee benefit records. Work with vendor and Payroll Office on system testing, configuration and troubleshooting.
  • Serve as liaison between SRAlab and third party vendors in the administration of FMLA, COBRA, Flexible Spending Accounts, Short and Long Term Disability plans, retirement plans and other benefits.
  • Partner with Director, Total Rewards to develop and manage annual benefits budget, overseeing payment of benefit plan billings, monitoring expenses against budget.
  • Ensure statutory compliance with ACA, FMLA, ADA, COBRA, ERISA and HIPAA.
  • Participate in year-end processes necessary to support benefit plan operations and compliance, including retirement plan census preparation and audits.
  • Perform all other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab.

Reporting Relationships

  • Reports directly to the Director, Total Rewards

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required

  • Education level appropriate with what is normally gained through completion of a Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Finance or related field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience and in-depth knowledge of benefit programs, including executive-level programs, and applicable laws Healthcare experience preferred. Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite. Experience with ADP and Great Plains preferred.
  • Demonstrated excellence in verbal and written communications with employees at all levels of an organization.
  • Strong customer service focus, interpersonal skills, tact and diplomacy while interacting with a diverse employee population.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and projects to meet established deadlines.
  • Strong analytical skills, problem-solving ability, attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Experience preparing and presenting benefit plan renewal and/or plan design changes for approval.
  • Working knowledge of compensation programs, policies and procedures.
  • Adaptability to changing business conditions and priorities.

Working Conditions

  • Normal office environment with little or no exposure to dust or extreme temperature.
