World Wildlife Fund (WWF) seeks a Development Officer, Central Region. For almost 60 years, WWF has been protecting life on our planet – including our own. As the world’s leading conservation organization fighting to restore species and places, WWF works in 100 countries supported by more than one million members in the US and five million globally. Based out of the Chicago office, the Development Officer will play a key role in expanding major gifts fundraising in the 23-state central region, working closely with program and development colleagues in WWF’s Washington, DC headquarters.
- Manage a portfolio of 100+ including a mix of individuals qualified to make a gift of $100,000 or more, prospects and suspects in qualification. Cultivate ongoing relationships between donors, prospective donors and WWF to build a robust donor base in the central region. Develop and execute solicitation strategies for qualified prospects.
- Develop strategies to attract new major donors and raise visibility for WWF. Work with donors to host events and serve as ambassadors for WWF. Qualify prospects for interest in giving to WWF and capacity to give at the major or principal gift level through substantive contacts and visits.
- Work and travel with program staff to plan and conduct visits, presentations, and events. Collaborate with development communications to produce proposals, reports and other donor materials as needed. Collaborate with the development events team to plan and execute events. May accompany donors and prospective donors on trips to visit WWF projects in the field, as requested.
- Monitor giving from the managed portfolio and ensure all assigned donors are solicited for annual commitments, as well as major, multi-year commitments. Work with Senior Director, Central Region to assess results and project future portfolio goals and activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- A Bachelor's degree with five years’ experience in major gifts fundraising.
- Passion for WWF’s mission and knowledge of conservation issues.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the principles and best practices of non-profit major gifts development (or a closely related relationship management process).
- Must be flexible, responsible, and able to balance a variety of activities and work as an effective member of a team.
- Ability to succeed within a consensus-building culture: self-motivation, collaboration, and strong written and verbal skills are essential at WWF.
- Intellectual curiosity and sense of humor.
- Proven ability to manage projects, set priorities, and work within deadlines.
- Ability to travel approximately 40% of the time.
