Open November 8th, 2019 through Tuesday, Jun 30, 2020 at 11:59pm (Pacific Time)
The Department of Microbiology & Molecular Genetics at the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine invites applications for two full-time faculty positions. The academic appointments will be at the Assistant Professor level in the Line (tenure track) series.
One of the positions will be within the broad field of virology. All areas of virology relevant to human disease are of interest, including molecular mechanisms of pathogenesis, virus-host interactions, immune responses to infection, molecular virology and vaccinology.
The second position will be in the broad area of microbiology. All areas of microbial science involving medically-relevant bacterial, fungal and protozoan pathogens are of interest, including (but not limited to) molecular mechanisms of pathogenesis, host-pathogen interactions, the systems biology of microbiomes, antibiotic resistance, and innate immunity to microbes.
Ideal applicants will be creative and collaborative scientists using state-of-the-art approaches combining different elements of cell biology, genetics, bioinformatics, biochemistry and in vitro or in vivo models of infection. We would especially encourage applicants with innovative new perspectives and research interests that embrace interdisciplinary approaches.
Successful applicants will be expected to establish and maintain an extramurally funded research program and participate in departmental teaching and mentoring missions for graduate students and medical students.
All applicants must have a Ph.D. and/or M.D., as well as postdoctoral research experience, and a strong record of research accomplishments and publications.
The search committee will begin reviewing applications mid-November.
