Wolfspeed is seeking a Global Semiconductor Facilities Controls/Automation Design Engineer to join the Global Facilities Team (GFET). This person will be responsible to provide high quality engineering services and specifications for the planning, design, construction, Start-up and Commissioning of your discipline specific Facilities systems in support of Semiconductor Device and Materials manufacturing across the Wolfspeed Global Manufacturing Network. They will develop the design standards for the Extremely Low Voltage (ELV) systems associated with Production Support Mechanical and Process Systems and Life Safety Systems such as (Wonderware, TGMS, etc.) This position will also be responsible for the development of the physical layout of equipment, protection and control logic, and wiring diagrams. This position will be responsible for specification and procurement of engineered equipment, as well as development of design scope and cost estimates. This person in this job must have working knowledge of Siemens PLC programming/hardware troubleshooting, as well as Wonderware System Platform/Historian and the necessary network architecture to support these types of systems.

As the Wolfspeed Global Facilities Controls/Automation Systems Design Engineer Lead your responsibilities during Projects will be as follows:

You will participate in Project Design and Scope Development, Documentation, and Control Change, Vendor Selection, Project Tendering, and onsite Discipline Project Safety, Coordination and Execution for your discipline.

Responsibilities and Tasks

Project Team Discipline Lead

  • Provide Project Procurement Technical Support.
  • Provide support for cost and schedule estimates and justification for approval
  • Provide Wolfspeed specifications and standards to Design Firms
  • Provide supervision and coordination of consultant resources required
  • Ensure appropriate communication with local facilities, Design Team, Construction, Procurement and manufacturing stakeholders as required to deliver project objectives and deliverables.
  • Coordinate System Design between GFET, Local Project Team, A&E Firm, Vendors, GC, Stakeholders etc.
  • Document Discipline Scope and ensure that scope meets requestor needs
  • Lead Weekly Project Work Group meetings, ensure needed actions are tracked, monitored and reported.
  • Review detailed designs and specifications for the installation of the new facilities infrastructure
  • Ensure designs comply with all applicable standards, codes, and regulations.
  • Management Discipline Scope Change Process and documentation.
  • Be responsible for the timely review of design packages and providing documented comments and feedback as necessary.
  • Work with appropriate personnel to address problems or make corrections
  • Monitor progress and provide engineering and design support during construction as required per project if necessary.
  • Ensure all Project scope is executed to Safety Standards and requirements. Review all Job plans for high risk during construction in discipline related areas /scope.
  • Track and Report progress weekly on Project progress, risk, schedule, cost for Discipline
  • Oversee Disciplines installation Q&A assurance and Testing and Commissioning Activities.
  • Coordinate and Lead Project Closeout activities for Discipline; Punch listing and verification, Documentation and System Handover.

During periods when not actively supporting Project your responsibilities will be as follows:

You will participate in capacity and scenario planning, specification development and support system troubleshooting and technical issue resolution across the network and evaluate impact of changes. In this role, you will support the Facilities Teams and Manufacturing sites across the network as a Subject Matter Expert in design, start-up, operations, and maintenance and will ensure environmental, safety, regulatory, and code compliance.

Responsibilities and Tasks

Design and Plan Systems and Buildings

  • Update system Design and Standards documentation for safe operations and maintenance based on prior system designs, Lessons Learnt, and approved new technologies and innovations.
  • Develop, review, and maintain the equipment and component specifications and standards for the corporation.
  • Ensure material compatibility for all materials specified per application.
  • Reviewing of the capacity planning databases (with Base Build capacities, POC assignments, and actual field conditions) across the network and validating utilization and diversity factor assumptions.
  • Review and advise sites on periodic system status presentations (system capacity, actual load, and projected loads based on all approved scenarios, key system accomplishments, and challenges/issues)
  • Assist sites with the evaluate system and distribution capacity impacts based on scenario changes as requested.
  • Reviewing and advising on scope for facilities infrastructure additions or modifications across the network.

Provide Technical Support, Leadership, and Expertise for Network Sites

  • Provide consultation and support to Operations and Maintenance and Manufacturing as Technical Discipline Subject Matter Expert
  • Lead Discipline Joint Engineering Team Meetings with Network Engineering to share Ideas, BKMs, Lessons Learnt and provide updates and collection inputs on new Designs, Project Statues, Innovations, Etc.
  • Partner with Network Engineers to analyze existing Network system designs to identify improvements that will result in better performance, efficiency gains, reduced maintenance, and cost savings
  • Support sites with problem analysis using standard tools and methodologies as requested.
  • Provide Technical leadership and support to Procurement group on vendor qualifications, Vendor Selection and negotiations as needed.
  • Conduct risk and failure mode and effects analysis
  • Eliminate single points of failure and mitigate risk
  • Benchmark within and external to Wolfspeed sites on engineering and design BKMs of Facilities buildings and systems
  • Own and maintain of Corporate Facility Design Standards for your discipline.
  • Maintain leading edge applicable domain knowledge (chemical theory, instrumentation control theory, high purity principles, etc.)
  • Maintain equipment support knowledge (reaction modes/mechanisms, hazard protocol, leak detection, etc.)

This Job is Right for You if You Have (Minimum Requirements):

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electronics, Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering required, Master’s Degree desired.
  • Minimum 10-year experience in Controls Engineering and Architecture with a focus on Design and Construction of Semiconductor or similar Facilities and systems.
  • Must have Siemens PLC Programming and Hardware and Inductive Automation Ignition System SCADA experience.
  • Ability to prioritize and schedule workload and work on multiple tasks concurrently
  • Excellent communication skills and good team working skills, English required
  • Ability to travel domestically or internationally up to 25% of the time
