Executive Director, Foundation & Corporate Relations

Unit-specific Responsibilities 

1) Lead team of professionals developing and managing relationships with a broad range of independent foundations and corporate foundations.

2) Coordinate this activity with key partners across campus, including the president, provost, executive vice president, vice provost for research, deans, and institute directors.

3) Serve as primary ARD liaison University-wide for all non-federal organizations.

4) Build and manage a cross-functional, highly collaborative team that is entrepreneurial in its approach and maintains a deep knowledge of faculty research, as well as organization priorities.

5) Support the development of innovative research initiatives and programs that align with university priorities as determined by the president, provost, and deans and will enhance future foundation support.

6) Explore and integrate new giving vehicle models into the work of the FCR team as appropriate, including innovative financing, social impact investing, and public/private partnerships.

7) Identify faculty projects and institutional initiatives that align well with foundation interests proactively. Work with senior leadership, faculty and administrators to develop and implement strategies for securing support from top-tier foundations.

8) Maintain relationships with foundation and corporate program officers to explore areas of synergy, introduce faculty and programs to foundation officers, and work to secure UChicago representation on the boards and other leadership groups that direct the future of foundation philanthropy.

9) Develop comprehensive understanding of university research administration policies and practices.

10) Manage staff including hiring, training, career planning and evaluation. 

11) Promote professional development of staff through effective leadership and mentoring.

12) Seek opportunities for professional development that will enhance job performance, including building networks within the University and with colleagues at peer institutions.

7) Willingness and ability to travel to campus and/or non-campus locations for University business. 

8) Willingness and ability to work evenings and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications


1) Professional work experience in nonprofit management, development, alumni relations, marketing, public relations, sales or similar professional work experience 

2) Experience soliciting and closing gifts

3) Experience leading a project team or managing staff

4) Experience developing and monitoring budgets
