Purpose and Scope 

Engineering student intern to provide support to BOSS Design Engineering in various duties involving analysis of data, review of designs, collection of data on systems and other miscellaneous tasks as assigned.

Job Duties and Essential Responsibilities 

Perform design reviews and provide written comments. Attend design reviews as requested. Perform field inspections of mechanical systems, fire protection system, HVAC systems (clean rooms, multiple-zone VAV systems, simple constant volume systems, distribution systems (pumps, pipe, control valves, ductwork, diffusers, and registers), air handlers (with coils and economizers), fan systems, central plant systems (boilers, chillers, cooling towers), chilled water systems, packaged HVAC units, fume hoods, and dust collection systems. Analyze data using various engineering software packages (Trace 3D, HASS, etc.) Assist engineers in specifications, red lines and site walk downs. Review and research codes (Energy, ASHRAE, NFPA), standards, and guidelines. Update existing drawings for approval and document repository. Conduct field visits, troubleshooting investigations, and analyzing engineering problems to propose solutions, alternatives and/or recommendations. Develop design documents, scope and estimates of work for outside repairs or service work. Perform all other duties as assigned or requested.

Education and Experience Requirements

Current student pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical Engineering preferred), Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or related scientific field with 60+ credits and a GPA of 3.0 or better. Good communications and analytical skills. Knowledgeable of Excel, PowerPoint, and Word Applications.

Other Requirements:

Must be a U.S. citizen (no exceptions) and be able to obtain and maintain clearances/badges. Must have the ability to communicate in English, both verbal and written in an effective manner. Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license. Must be in the local area (Kennedy Space Center).

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

This position involves work typical of an office environment with no unusual hazards; occasional lifting to 20 pounds; constant sitting with use of computer terminal; constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents; constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication; constant mental alertness; must possess planning/organizing skills and must be able to work under deadlines. Field work will consist primarily of site walk downs in support of design projects and system trouble shooting Site hazard training and Personal Protective Equipment are provided.
