Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems located in Redondo Beach, CA has an opening for a Sr. Principal Mechanical Design Engineer

In this role, you will:

Support a mature, production Aircraft program and participate in the resolution of complex challenges involving mechanisms, electrical routing, weapons integration, and fire protection.

Perform and lead design solutions to address customer challenges and resolve issues with production.

Support project execution tasks such as requirements definition, tracking an IPT’s work product, delegating or leading technical support personnel, and monitoring schedule/cost performance.

Lead a complex, multi-discipline work package requiring interfacing directly with customers, providing technical support, and directing or mentoring junior engineers.

Provide oversight of external suppliers to verify/validate requirements and ensure qualification/certification deliverables meet requirements. 


Basic Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor of Science in a STEM discipline from an accredited university with 9 years of aerospace engineering experience, OR a Master of Science in a STEM discipline from an accredited university with 7 years of aerospace engineering experience, OR PhD in a STEM discipline from an accredited university with 4 years of aerospace engineering experience.
  • Prior experience with 3D-CAD modeling software
  • Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerance (GD&T) and tolerance stack-up analysis.
  • Experience in supporting and/or leading in a design team environment
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering
  • Working knowledge of engineering drawings and related Bill-of-Materials
  • Cost Account Management and/or Project execution experience
  • Experience with the design, development, and implementation of aerospace mechanical systems, actuators, or mechanisms as well as a working knowledge of complex mechanical subsystems and integration of subsystems hardware into Vehicle Systems.
  • Technical leadership or management of external suppliers.
  • Experience with industry standard design tools and processes including NX CAD, CATIA V5, and GD&T.
  • Active, in scope DOD Secret clearance
