DESCRIPTION:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Quality & Metrology Technician to join our growing Quality team. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of our metrology operations, with a focus on programming and running vision and touch probe CMM systems, using their respective software applications to conduct precise and efficient dimensional measurements. You will work closely with engineers, quality inspectors, and production teams to ensure the accuracy and efficiency of dimensional measurements for critical components.

Also responsible for training and mentoring other technicians on the use of the system. Key player in ensuring the quality and accuracy of our products, and your expertise will be vital in supporting our manufacturing and engineering teams.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Programming and operating the vision and touch probe systems: Develop and maintain inspection programs for a variety of parts and features. Optimize programs for accuracy, speed, and repeatability. Troubleshoot and resolve system errors and software issues. Conduct manual inspections when necessary and ensure accuracy and repeatability. Create and maintain inspection documentation and reports. Stay up-to-date on the latest advancements in metrology inspection techniques and equipment. Perform and document routine maintenance and calibration of the system.
  • Perform high-precision dimensional measurements: Utilize various measuring tools and instruments, including calipers, micrometers, and gauges. Analyze measurement data and identify any areas of concern. Investigate and troubleshoot measurement discrepancies. Generate reports that clearly communicate measurement results and conclusions. Develop and procure necessary fixturing and accessories to support measurement systems.
  • Maintain the metrology lab: Calibrate and maintain all measuring equipment according to established procedures. Ensure the lab environment is clean, organized, and conducive to accurate measurements. Order and manage supplies as needed.
  • Support manufacturing and engineering teams: Collaborate with engineers to develop and implement new inspection methods. Provide training and support to other technicians on metrology procedures and equipment. Investigate and resolve quality issues related to dimensional measurements. Help to develop the skills and knowledge of the team.
  • Continuously improve metrology processes: Identify opportunities for improvement in efficiency, accuracy, and cost-effectiveness. Implement and document process improvements. Stay informed about industry best practices for dimensional measurement.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Metrology Technician.
  • Two- or four-year degree in a technical field is highly desirable.
  • Proven experience in operating and programming CMM vision and touch probe systems.
  • Experience with MicroVu Inspec software is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of dimensional measurement principles and practices.
  • Understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) and metrology principles highly desirable.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with other metrology equipment and software a plus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
