Dillon’s Environmental Sciences technical group is looking for a Senior Ecologist – Land Development / Project Manager to join our existing talent base in the GTA and assist in delivering land development projects. The position is for our Toronto, Oakville or Hamilton Offices. You will have the opportunity to work on new and exciting projects while providing clients with a fully integrated and superior customer experience.

Responsibilities

What your day will look like

Lead, manage and coordinate programs, projects, and technical studies related to the natural environment component of various land development projects.

Lead and provide senior guidance and review for the development of Environmental Impact Assessments/Studies (EIA/EIS/NHE/NHIS), Environmental Implementation Reports (EIR), Sub-watershed Studies, Master Environmental and Servicing Plans (MESP), compensation/offsetting plans, and related environmental permitting assignments at the provincial and federal levels.

Scope, plan, develop, and implement field programs for land development projects.

Coordinate multi-disciplinary projects and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders/consultants.

Prepare, review, and present reports and proposals.

Direct and provide instruction to project team members, including natural scientists, technologists, and technical support staff.

Drive business development by identifying market opportunities, communicating with clients, preparing proposals, and participating in conferences and professional associations.

Contribute to the learning and development of junior staff, providing technical guidance, training recommendations, coaching, and mentoring.

Actively participate in professional associations and committees to enhance Dillon's corporate profile.

Qualifications

What you will need to succeed

Bachelor's degree in biology, ecology, or a related environmental sciences field.

Minimum of 7 years experience in environmental consulting as an environmental professional in delivering the natural heritage component of land development projects/applications.

Proven professional work experience in leading environmental consulting projects, including project management for land development clients.

Experience

  • In-depth knowledge of provincial and federal environmental legislation, regulations, policies, guidelines, and regulatory permitting and approval requirements for land development applications.
  • Training and certification in Ecological Land Classification, Ontario Wetland Evaluation System, and/or Ontario Stream Assessment Protocol would be an asset.
  • Experience leading and providing senior guidance and review in preparing regulatory applications, Environmental Impact Assessments/Studies (EIA/EIS/NHE/NHIS), Environmental Implementation Reports (EIR), Sub-watershed Studies, Master Environmental and Servicing Plans (MESP) , and executing field programs.
  • Strong project management and client relationship skills.
  • Experience preparing for the Ontario Land Tribunal/Ontario Municipal Board (OLT/OMB) and being an expert witness would be an asset.
  • Experience engaging and/or working with stakeholders and communities, including Indigenous communities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, critical thinking, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and agile environment.
