Northrop Grumman is seeking a 1st shift Inspection Manager to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals and lead a front line inspection department that supports the LCSO (Life Cycle Sustainment Organization) in our Mission Systems sector. This position will report into the Quality & Mission Excellence functional organization and will support all programs and contracts.  This position is located in Elkridge, MD.
 
The Inspection Manager supervises employees who inspect product to determine compliance with Northrop and customer requirements.  The Inspection Manager will monitor all work operations of their direct reports on a daily basis and actively assist or provide direction as required and may perform, in staff or professional groups of on-going tasks of the organizational group.
 
Must be able to understand and interpret process procedures, drawings, and other documentation that pertains to the manufacturing of product.
 
Accomplish tasks mainly through direct supervision of non-exempt employees. Meets the minimum requirements of executive exemption under the FAIR Labor Standards Act. They will ensure that projects are completed on schedule following established procedure and schedules.
 
Roles and Responsibilities for Inspection Manager
  • Monitor and track SAP deliveries and rejection metrics for the site, and implement critical process improvement to ensure the highest quality product is delivered to the customers
  • Communicate risks and opportunities to management and programs on products that undergo inspection in Final Assembly
  • Provide Manager oversight for inspection group, input for mid-year and end of year performance, provide hiring and training of new inspectors, and provide conflict resolution
  • Attend management product status weekly meetings and provide presentations to quality management on status of trending metric changes
  • Meet and work with DCMA on a monthly basis for the selloff of product
  • Manage overtime for the group and provide weekend support when needed, and review and approve time charging for inspectors
  • Provide headcount and hiring forecasts
  • Conduct audits and support third party audits of the facility
  • Ensure that correct and effective metrics are utilized to improve product compliance.
  • Identify innovative ways to improve the efficiency of inspection and reduce the inspection time
  • Identify quality problems, issues, and defects through root cause investigation and corrective action implementations
  • Support assigned programs by identifying quality requirements as defined by the contract.
  • Enforce quality and operational requirements as defined by our in-house processes and NGMS quality manuals to program management, engineering, and manufacturing.
  • Enforce in-house Quality and Operational requirements for compliance to ISO-9001.2015, AS9100 Rev C, and In-house Operational Manuals.
  • Actively pursue corrective action to ensure compliance to our contracts, processes, and procedures.
  • Develop and maintain activities/metrics to support the Quality Assurance activities in pursuit of Quality tasks.
  • Provide guidance to peers and management in the pursuit of quality excellence.
  • Develop and maintain customer satisfaction.
  • Ensure compliance of our deliveries to our customers both for schedule and quality.
  • Coordinate FAIs for sell-off and in-process inspection when needed.
  • Use and identify various measuring and inspection equipment that will increase efficiency and provide accurate defect recognition
  • May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree with 7+ years of progressive, relevant experience.
  • 3+ years of leadership experience.
  • Previous experience working in quality, supply chain, program management, engineering, business, or manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated experience integrating with multiple departments
  • Experience conducting root cause and corrective actions on identified quality problems, issues, and defects
  • Experience Lean Six Sigma practitioner
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a D.O.D. Secret Clearance.
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in a related field.
  • Ten years’ experience in a leadership role in the Aerospace Industry.
  • Five years working in quality, supply chain, program management, engineering, business, or manufacturing
  • Active DOD Secret Clearance
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 / AS9100 Quality Management System certification process
  • Lean / Six Sigma Black Belt certification
  • Knowledgeable of Earned Value Management
  • Familiarity with SAP
