The Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) team is seeking Mechanical Systems Design Engineer - Equipment Integrator (Experienced or Senior) located in Everett, WA or Tukwila, WA as part of the KC-46 Aerial Refueling AROS Systems Team. The KC-46 Aerial Refueling AROS Team is responsible for the aerial refueling AROS system design, production and sustainment. The team works closely with equipment suppliers, flight test, production, Boeing Commercial, Boeing Global Services, and the military customer.

This position is best suited to individuals who are self-starters, highly motivated, work well in fast-paced multi-discipline team environments, and are able to work with quick decisions for the best interest of the business.

Our teams are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including; Experienced and Senior Level Mechanical Systems Design Engineer - Equipment Integrator.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Work with our customers to deliver a new state of the art AROS console
  • Lead and coordinate work to analyze and translate requirements into system architecture, hardware and software designs and interface specifications
  • Lead work to test and validate to ensure system designs meet operational and functional requirements
  • Oversee supplier performance to ensure system integration and compliance with requirements
  • Manage supplier development, test and production activities and coordinates with the supplier to optimize the design and achieve program goals
  • Solve problems concerning and providing other support of fielded hardware and software over the entire product lifecycle
  • Develop, integrate and document requirements to establish the system design
  • Develop, maintain, or modify system, component and installation designs, using 3-D Computer Aided Engineering tools and/or other design methods, to provide product definition to other engineering groups, production operations, suppliers and external customers throughout the product lifecycle
  • Perform, integrate and document analyses and test results to validate and verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications
  • Develop new design/analysis processes and tools to improve effectiveness, quality and efficiency of the development effort

This position is hybrid. This means that the selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options. This is at the hiring team’s discretion and could potentially change in the future.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
  • 3+ years of experience in Systems or Design Engineering
  • 3+ years of leadership or project management experience
  • Experience with requirements, designs, and design analysis

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience with Avionics/Electronics development
  • Experience with FAA or Military Type Certification
  • Experience working with a Military Customer
  • Experience managing a Supplier
  • Experience with DO-160 (Environmental Conditions and Test Procedures) or equivalent systems certification guidance
  • Experience with Hardware/Systems Qualification and Testing

Typical Education/Experience: 

(Level3)

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

(Level4)

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

This position offers relocation based on candidate eligibility. Note: Basic relocation will be offered for eligible internal candidates.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. 

Summary pay range (experienced, level 3): 102,000 – 138,000

Summary pay range (senior, level 4): 124,100 – 167,900

To meet export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.15 is required. “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
