The Division of General Pediatrics is seeking an enthusiastic, intelligent, analytic, organized, and hardworking individual to work with the Region 1 New England Pediatric Environmental Health Specialty Unit team on NIH grant-funded research and program analyses. Dr. Hauptman co-leads the Boston Children’s Hospital Pediatric Environmental Health Center and the Region 1 New England Pediatric Environmental Health Specialty Unit at Boston Children’s (https://www.childrenshospital.org/programs/pediatric-environmental-health-center). Her clinical, research, and advocacy work is dedicated to mitigating environmental and climate injustices for pediatric populations through the intersection of public health and medicine. Her work focuses on systematically integrating socioeconomic and environmental exposure and climate vulnerability data into clinical care to address environmental and social health disparities for children.

The Clinical Research Assistant II will work closely with Dr. Marissa Hauptman and other members of the pediatric environmental health team to work with spatial or GIS datasets, using tools such as ArcGIS, statistical software packages (e.g. STATA, R, or SAS), and various data analysis tasks.

This Clinical Research Assistant II will be responsible for: 

  • Providing data collection and data management services.
  • Assisting with preliminary quantitative geospatial and/or statistical analyses.
  • Supporting data reporting for data review, quarterly reports, and interim and final analysis.
  • Filing human subjects review board protocols and amendments.
  • Aggregating data and aiding in data cleaning and management.
  • Preparing graphs, charts, and other visuals.
  • Organizing, cataloging educational materials and assisting with dissemination to study participants.
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) and supporting the writing and peer-reviewed process of abstracts, poster presentations, and research articles.
  • Assisting with grant writing, grant preparation, and grant submissions.
  • Assisting with possible future data collection efforts (e.g., recruiting participants, conducting surveys, abstracting patient charts, obtaining hospital administrative data).
  • Conducting literature searches and summarizing findings.
  • Providing meeting support (e.g., tending to logistics, scheduling meetings, preparing materials, taking minutes).
  • Setting up weekly agendas and providing support for program management
  • Other duties as needed.

In order to qualify you must have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM or psychology. A Master’s degree in public health, statistics, epidemiology, or informatics is beneficial but not required.
  • 1-2 years of clinical research or public health experience for assistant positions
  • Comfortable and enthusiastic about working with data as demonstrated through coursework and/or other experiences as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly detail-oriented and able to work independently
  • Strong self-motivation, teamwork, and interpersonal skills. The individual should be proactive, organized, and attentive to detail.
  • Interest in pediatric environmental health disparities and/or climate change and spatial/GIS research
  • Outstanding candidates will possess the above plus quantitative coursework (e.g. math, statistics, informatics, computer programming), proficiency in statistical programming skills (such as STATA, SAS, or R) and experience in using GIS software such as ArcGIS/ArcGISPro.
  • Two-year time commitment is preferred.
