DESCRIPTION

Amazon Web Services is looking for Software Development Engineers. This position is a hands-on role focusing on complex, ambiguous problem areas and innovative software initiatives in EC2 Trust Infrastructure team within AWS Compute & Networking organization. This role requires broad engineering competence and in-depth technical knowledge of control plane software development, DevOps roles, infrastructure tools and distributed systems, as well as demonstrated experience in planning, organizing, refactoring, and conducting software development projects in a dynamic environment. You will work closely with Security Engineers, Sr. Software Developers, Principal and Distinguished Engineers throughout AWS to define technical roadmap and follow through with world-class execution.

EC2 Trust Infrastructure team provides trust services for the EC2 substrate network. We architect, develop and own tier1 services that act as the gatekeepers for EC2 substrate network. These services provide state-of-the-art security and trust services right from ensuring supply chain security to secure boot to providing authentication and authorization services in the substrate. We also provide highly available interfaces for efficient management of EC2 inventory attributes and provide analytical reporting on unusable capacity available for better capacity utilization.

Key job responsibilities

  • Design, develop, operate and own large-scale services, architecting them to scale
  • Provide technical leadership and mentor lead junior engineers in the team
  • Write high quality code to develop new systems, conduct deep design and code reviews
  • Solve problems at their root, stepping back to understand the broader context, and implementing fixes to ensure that an issue will never happen again

About the team

The EC2 Fleet Infrastructure organization owns the complete fleet lifecycle starting with the initial ingestion and capacity build out, fleet health monitoring including automated recovery and workflows to migrate, retire, and decommission racks. EC2 Trust Infrastructure is part of EC2 Fleet Infrastructure organization and is responsible for providing trust and identity infrastructure, and services for the EC2 substrate network. We provide identity certificate to each host in the substrate, manage host level firewall rules to ensure secure communication within the substrate, secure the access to Nitro droplets by vending signed bearer tokens and own secrets rotation infrastructure that handles global secret rotations automatically while maintaining the safety guarantees.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language
  • Knowledge of professional software engineering & best practices for full software development life cycle, including coding standards, software architectures, code reviews, source control management, continuous deployments, testing, and operational excellence

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with agile software development methodologies (Scrum/Kanban)

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $115,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
