Senior R&D Engineer

Your role in this position will be to initiate and drive technology and/or product development using in-depth technical expertise in a specific area or a broad range of skills in a technical field. R&D Senior Engineer for our Premier Products R&D team, which supports several industry leading brands including Ty-Rap®, Sta-Kon® and Color-Keyed®. You will support our new product design and development of next generation products, from ideation/concept design to market launch, with full accountability of design, development, testing & validation, and new product introduction.

Your responsibilities

  • Lead strategic product development projects in collaboration with product engineers, advanced technology specialists, and production leaders
  • Function as our SME in product design including mechanical, electromechanical, device configuration and assembly, and manufacturability for assigned product lines
  • Perform detailed part design for a variety of materials (metals, plastics, etc.) and functions (structural, cosmetic, dynamic, etc.)
  • Use analytical and data driven problem solving skills to develop robust product solutions
  • Design for high and low volume manufacturability for core processes including Injection Molding, Metal Stamping, Extrusion (metal and plastic), Machining, and Additive manufacturing
  • Conduct dimensional tolerance analysis to ensure design functionality and manufacturing capability
  • Prepare engineering documentation including drawings, BOM, material specifications, instruction sheets, quality control plans, etc.
  • Provide project progress updates and facilitate new product design review presentations to executive stakeholders, as required

Your background

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (or similar) with 7 to 10 years of experience in a related industry is required.
  • Must have strong leadership skills and project management experience, with ability to lead collaborative, cross-functional teams from design conception to completion
  • Must have strong proficiency using CAD software (preferably ProE/Creo)
  • Experience with electrical component design, test methods and regulations
  • Experience researching and selecting plastic resins for product designs utilizing injection molding and extrusion processes
  • Experience with simulation/analysis software such as ANSYS and/or MoldFlow
  • Experience using DOEs, regression analysis, probabilistic models and statistical analysis to drive product reliability
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing process capability, inspection methods and Gage R&R
  • Must have proficiency in using Microsoft Office applications (Example: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)
  • Must be a self-motivated quick learner, who is results oriented with a positive attitude
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Candidates must already have a work authorization that allows them to work for ABB in United States
