This job assumes responsibility for processing the biweekly Payroll of all non-management employees on an every other month or more frequent basis. Assumes responsibility for all Payroll office functions in the absence of the manager and must be able to maintain absolute confidentiality in the handling of documents and provide complete and accurate attention to detail. Ensures that essential information is communicated to the Payroll Manager

Education 

Required - High School diploma or equivalent

Preferred - Bachelor's degree

Work Experience

Required - 3 years experience with bookkeeping, payroll systems and processing or an accounting setting OR 1 year payroll experience with a Bachelor’s degree

Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of information.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally.
  • Must be proficient with Windows-style applications, various software packages specific to role and keyboard.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Positive interpersonal skills including the ability to effectively and professionally work with people from all backgrounds.
  • Organizing and prioritizing skills.
  • Decision-making and delegation skills.
  • Ability to work with and maintain confidential information.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.

Job Duties

  • Runs computer payroll programs and subroutines to process the biweekly payroll for non-management employees.
  • Initiates the time and attendance processes and follows through to completion.
  • Enters all adjustments in Lawson, maintains the GME and Research departments' standard time records.
  • Completes or responds to verifications of employment from various lending institutions, local agencies, or other organizations and completes unemployment fraud reports, etc.
  • Creates and initiates transfer of direct deposit file and the federal and FICA taxes.
  • Initiates and follows through with the printing, sealing, sorting, distributing and mailing of checks, receipts and W2s.
  • Advises employees on matters related to payroll policies and procedures, including clarifications on earnings, withholding and other deductions.
  • Prepares manual checks, stop payment notices, files and makes copies of payment records for various departments.
  • Other related duties as required.

Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary Work. Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work: (1) when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or (3) when the job requires working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of those materials is negligible. NOTE: The constant stress and strain of maintaining a production rate pace, especially in an industrial setting, can be and is physically demanding of a worker even though the amount of force exerted is negligible.

Mechanical lifting devices (e.g., carts, dollies, etc.) or team lifts should be utilized.

Must be able to stoop, bend, reach and grab with arms and hands, manual dexterity.

Must be able to sit and stand for prolonged periods of time.

Normal routine involves no exposure to blood, body fluid or tissue and as part of their employment, incumbents are not called upon to perform or assist in emergency care or first aid.

There is no occupational risk for exposure to communicable diseases.
