Role: Legal Counsel (qualified solicitor 3-5 PQE) - UK

Overview of Legal Counsel Position:

This is a broad in-house counsel position for a lawyer with strong funds, corporate or capital market expertise looking to broaden his/her skill set. A lawyer taking on this position will report directly into the Head of Legal and will be given exposure to the management, investors as well as to other senior members of staff within the business. Key areas of work include:

  • Funds, corporate, derivatives and capital markets
  • structuring, drafting, negotiating and advising on a wide range of commercial agreements with vendors; and
  • advising on a wide range of legal issues including commercial contracts, funds, corporate, employment, data protection and IP.

Typical Day of Legal Counsel:

There is no typical day for a Legal Counsel. The role will be varied and will include a mix of corporate governance, funds/regulatory, commercial, IP, and data protection. It will be a multi-disciplinary and collaborative environment and the successful candidate will be required to interact with other teams (also located in different jurisdictions) and senior management.

Skill Set Required For Position: 

  • 3-5 PQE (ideally with dual qualification in the UK and a civil law jurisdiction)
  • Previous experience in a magic circle firm, American firm or equivalent in-house role
  • Previous experience in either corporate, finance or funds/capital markets
  • Pro-active and ability to think outside the box in order to provide solutions
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational  and communication (both written and verbal) skills
  • Ability to work well with colleagues across multiple regions
  • Ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks, and work with tight deadlines
