PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION

The Principal Product Designer, Employee Experience is responsible for contributing to the experience design strategy along specific employee journeys as a part of the Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) transformation program.

The Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) transformation program is a multiyear program intended to transform Exelon’s Work, Asset and Supply business capabilities and deliver the Enterprise Asset Management solution. The Principal Product Designer, Employee Experience will be responsible for the design strategy, user research, user experience, and user interface design processes that uncover user behaviors and needs to drive key business outcomes, including employee satisfaction and reduction of effort across multiple user journeys.

As a Principal Product Designer, you will help shape the future of Exelon with influence across multiple teams to demonstrate the value of design across a wide range of solutions. We’re looking for a highly experienced Principal Product Designer to evangelize human-centered design (HCD) principles to set the standard and to collaborate closely with Product, Engineering, and Project Leadership as a partner, educator, and evangelist. We are looking for designers who are passionate about the design process and coaching others, developing innovative design solutions, and who have strong conceptual foundations. If you have shown proven success in service design, user research, design thinking, stakeholder management and can channel your design eminence to address complex business and user needs with quality, empathy, and dignity, you could be the right fit for this position.

  • Position may be required to work extended hours, including 24 x 7 coverage during storms or other energy delivery emergencies (storm duty rotation).

PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Provide design expertise to EU IT and Business teams to identify design solutions and strategies to achieve business results. Develop and ensure appropriate application and usage of design approaches within both the UX discovery and production (prototyping) process. (35%)
  • Design and develop enterprise-wide design strategy in alignment with business goals to shape Design and Product roadmaps. (30%)
  • Evangelize design thinking and agile practices across the Business to senior and executive leadership. (10%)
  • Lead, coach, and engage design talent to ensure goals are met, the team is delivering to the highest quality, and the work is being done effectively. (10%)
  • Maintain awareness of trends and issues in area of technical expertise, evaluate new technologies or technology opportunities, and provide analysis of their potential impact to advantage the business. (10%)
  • Foster a highly collaborative culture that values innovation and supporting each other. (5%)

JOB SCOPE

  • Maintain deep knowledge of technology and its application across Exelon.
  • Promote knowledge via seminars, presentations and publications within IT and Exelon.
  • Determine appropriate theories, practices and principles that relate the technology to Exelon's business.
  • Contribute technological innovation to drive new business opportunities and solve complex business problems.
  • Operate independently with little or no supervision.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline and typically 7 to 10 years in solid, diverse experience in IT, with a focus in User Experience Design or in lieu of degree, 10+ years combination of education and relevant work experience.
  • Appropriate technical skills:
  • Maintain expert knowledge of the product design and development industry, design trends, and best practices. 
  • Maintain a deep understanding of business objectives to ensure alignment of design strategy across a portfolio of products and projects. 
  • Design Thinking facilitation for solution design and strategy with cross functional teams and business stakeholders. 
  • Shape and advance core team processes to increase operational efficiency and quality. 
  • Coach and lead other designers assigned (Contractor and Fulltime) to their product or project team. 
  • Roadmap design activities and milestones to inform staffing forecasts and budgets. 
  • Be an internal and external thought leader and innovator in order to educate and contribute to a healthy talent pipeline (e.g., present at events or conferences).
  • Design Portfolio (UX/UI, Product Design) is required for consideration.
  • In-depth knowledge of business unit functions and applications:
  • Represent the voice of the customer and advocate for user needs, while considering business goals and technical constraints to enable project or product delivery to drive measurable outcomes.
  • Lead and innovate design processes, UX activities (e.g., wireframes, prototypes, personas, user research, journey maps, service blueprints etc.), and tools, along with storytelling skills, to take accessible and modern digital solutions from concept to market in collaboration with stakeholders and team members.
  • Comprehensive understanding of change management techniques associated with new technology implementation.
  • Experience producing an economic business case.
  • Demonstrate leadership ability.
  • Strong judgment, excellent analytical ability and consulting skills.
  • Excellent communications skills and ability to work effectively with all levels of IT and business management and with vendors.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduate degree in area of technical specialty.
  • Service design expertise or certification.
  • Experience with iterative design process.
  • Data analytics expertise or certification.
  • Accessibility certification.
