Position Purpose:

The Finance Manager: Labor Analytics and Forecasting within the Supply Chain Finance (SCF) team will helm pivotal initiatives leveraging advanced data analytics for strategic decision-making and optimization of the supply chain's financial performance. While labor finance management—our largest supply chain variable expense exceeding $1B annually—remains a primary focus, this role also encompasses a broader range of financial analytics responsibilities to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness across the supply chain. Your expertise in Python, SQL, forecasting, predictive analytics techniques, and a nuanced understanding of labor finance metrics will drive the development of innovative solutions, creating substantial business value.

Duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Comprehensive Analytics Leadership: Develop and implement advanced predictive analytics and machine learning models to optimize supply chain performance, with a special emphasis on labor expense management. This role involves extensive hands-on work with data analytics tools like BigQuery to support projects that improve labor reporting, forecasting, and strategic planning, while also addressing other significant financial segments of the supply chain.
  • Centralized Forecasting Framework Development: Spearhead the creation of a unified system for labor reporting, forecasting, and planning. This critical project aims to integrate key labor metrics, such as productivity, wages, and investment data, to enable more accurate and comprehensive analysis. Efforts will focus on driving Distribution Center (DC)/Week forecast error to less than or equal to 10% WMAPE (Weighted Mean Absolute Percentage Error), aligning staffing models with merchandising and operations forecasts to minimize biases, and experimenting with cutting-edge forecasting libraries such as Nixtla, Autogluon, and Darts.
  • Mentorship and Professional Development: Guide and mentor junior team members in data science, analytics, financial modeling, focusing on labor finance and broader financial management techniques. Promote an environment of learning and growth, preparing the team to tackle diverse financial challenges within the supply chain.
  • Strategic Collaboration and Insightful Reporting: Work closely with IT, HR, operational teams, and external partners to develop a robust data and analytics infrastructure that supports comprehensive financial analysis. Enhance reporting and business intelligence capabilities, leveraging tools like Excel and Tableau to deliver actionable insights across all aspects of supply chain finance.
  • Oversight of Strategic Financial Investments: Employ a data-driven approach to oversee strategic investment projects, optimizing resource allocation across labor and other critical areas to maximize ROI and enhance the supply chain's financial health.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Analysis/Problem Solving - Works to fully understand business; identify and implement process and organizational improvements. Plans and ensures execution of department objectives. Participates in preparation of the annual budget, reviews monthly expenditures and ensures that budgetary goals are met. Reviews monthly metrics to ensure goals are met.
  • Conduct financial planning for function and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Leads, plans, and coordinates work teams in an efficient manner to effectively perform any financial function and activity; utilizes metrics to track performance and manage workload. Ensures operational processes and procedures are compliant and consist with established policies.
  • Drive key functional financial metrics.
  • Project Management- Develops and supports a strategic alliance with business partners. Participates in cross-functional activities focused on solving business issues and enhancing our competitive advantage. Facilitates cross-functional communication with other areas of the business including but not limited to Finance, Human Resources, Real Estate, Operations, and Information Systems.

Direct Manager/Direct Reports:

  • Typically reports to a Director level
  • This position has no direct reports.

Travel Requirements:

  • Typically requires overnight travel 5% to 20% of the time.

Physical Requirements:

  • Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.

Working Conditions:

  • Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be eighteen years of age or older.
  • Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Expertise in Supply Chain Financial Management: Demonstrated expertise in financial analysis, strategic planning, and data-driven decision-making, with a comprehensive understanding of supply chain dynamics and labor finance.
  • Advanced Technical Proficiency: Strong skills in Python, SQL, and familiarity with BigQuery or similar data management tools. Capability to handle complex analytics and forecasting across various financial areas, with a particular focus on labor expense optimization.
  • Leadership and Team Development: Proven leadership abilities with experience in mentoring and developing teams in a dynamic, innovative environment. Capacity to lead sophisticated projects that span across labor finance and other significant financial management areas.
  • Collaborative and Strategic Thinking: Excellent collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively across functions. A strategic thinker capable of translating complex financial data into actionable business insights and strategies, with a keen eye for optimizing the supply chain's overall financial performance.

Minimum Education:

  • The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.

Competencies:

  • Knowledge of accounting principles and practicies, analysis and reporting of financial data.
  • Knowledge of business and mgmt. Principles involved in strategic planning and resource allocation.

  • Judgement and decision-making skills; considering relative costs, benefits of potential actions.
