Federal Reserve Financial Services (FRFS) delivers a suite of payments services to financial institutions via FedLine® Solutions, Fedwire®, National Settlement Service (NSS), FedCash®, FedACH®, and Check Services. The Senior Marketing Specialist is responsible for planning and executing media relations strategies within the Marketing Communications area of Federal Reserve Financial Services, as a member of a small media relations team. This role supports the strategic direction and planning process for FRFS media relations activities across FRFS strategic initiatives and business lines, including the new FedNow® Service for instant payments.

If the candidate is not a current Federal Reserve Bank System employee, this position will be based out of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago and the employee will be required to fulfill the on-site hybrid requirement.

Key Activities:

  • Develops and executes comprehensive media relations plans to generate news coverage and attention across earned and owned media channels.
  • Actively collaborates with a broad range of internal stakeholders in the creation of integrated internal/external communications campaigns, key messages and media materials, ensuring that subject matter experts and senior staff are prepared to interact effectively with reporters.
  • Cultivates strong relationships with key journalists and editors at banking and payments industry publications to increase their understanding of FRFS’ mission, products and expertise.
  • Contributes as a copywriter, editor and creative producer for owned channels, with end user or target audiences in mind.
  • Responds timely with relevant information to reporter inquiries about FRFS; recommends appropriate spokesperson(s) to speak to reporters; develops talking points; briefs and coaches spokespeople; facilitates interviews.
  • Develops and/or improves tools, processes, metrics and key performance indicators to measure the effectiveness of the Bank’s media activities and uses that information to continually refine external stakeholders.
  • Identifies reputational challenges and emerging issues faced by the organization, working with leadership team and staff to identify, flag and/or escalate issues and determine appropriate steps for mitigation or resolution.
  • Supports service outage media coordination and news monitoring, in collaboration with other stakeholders involved in external communications.
  • This position reports directly to the Assistant Vice President, Marketing Communications. The level of work required is considered advanced and staff must be able to work under tight deadlines with minimal supervision.

Requirements:

  • Typically requires 7-10 years related experience
  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications or related field or equivalent work experience required.
  • Proven experience working with teams in a complex, geographically diverse, and matrixed organization
  • Expertise and experience in payments, banking and/or financial services desired.
  • Superior communication, writing and editing skills. Ability to synthesize complex streams of information and interpret complex issues. Ability to effectively interface with and influence FRFS senior executives, peers and staff and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to make decisions in a changing environment and anticipate future needs. Energetic, flexible, collaborative, and proactive; a high-performing team member who can positively and productively impact both strategic and tactical success.
  • Understands and has a keen interest in payments, financial services and banking. Collaborative, works well with others, and can exist comfortably in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and supporting comprehensive strategic communications and media relations programs to advance an organization's mission and goals, incorporating innovative approaches, technologies and channels.
  • Demonstrated skill and comfort in proactively building relationships with reporters and editors, and in successfully positioning subject matter with the media to achieve high-impact placements.
  • Track record of developing strategies and initiatives that continually improve the organization. Demonstrated ability for strong execution and accountability for the results.
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States without the need for visa sponsorship now or in the future.

This position has additional screening requirements due to the information accessed while performing the job. These additional screenings would be initiated at the time of offer acceptance and can take up to a couple of months to be completed. You can begin work before the screening is completed; however, continued employment is contingent on acceptable screening results.
