Overview/Purpose

Pitchfork is expanding its event and festival business, and is looking to quickly add to a growing staff! We’re looking for people with a variety of creative interests, an ability to work quickly and collaboratively, and an ability to remain calm under pressure.

The Events Designer position is a newly dedicated part of Pitchfork’s inhouse design team, whose responsibilities focus on all aspects of event design, including branding, advertising, web design, wayfaring signage, merchandise, and more. This position is based in Chicago, and reports to the Design Director and the Director of Festivals & Events.

The Events Designer position is a newly dedicated part of Pitchfork’s inhouse design team, whose responsibilities focus on all aspects of event design, including branding, advertising, web design, wayfaring signage, merchandise, and more. This position is based in Chicago, and reports to the Design Director and the Director of Festivals & Events.

Primary Responsibilities

Manage design work for multiple overlapping events from concept through execution.

Work within and expand upon Pitchfork’s creative aesthetics to produce festival and event brand identities for both new and existing events.

Work cross-departmentally—Events, Development, Production, and more—to keep the various tasks on track.

Manage a pipeline of asset creation needs for marketing and PR moments.

Design signage for events, working with venues and partners to ensure all needs are covered.

Desired Skills & Qualifications

Articulate presentation skills, and an extreme attention to detail

Minimum 3 years of professional graphic design experience

Bachelor degree or equivalent in graphic design

A strong portfolio showcasing a wide range of work, styles, and solutions, and an elevated sense of layout, form, color and typography

Proficiency in the latest releases of Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Sketch, as well as image compression, file correction and optimization techniques

An understanding of brand identity and the tasks that are necessary to execute—an extremely iterative, client-centered process with extensive deliverables

UI and UX design experience

Ability to create intriguing motion graphics is a huge plus

A diverse set of illustration capabilities and an interest in photography would also be helpful

An ever-learning attitude (meaning if you don't know how to do something, you'll have the drive to learn as you go and won't be too intimidated to ask questions)

Doesn't take constructive criticism personally

Self-directed toward excellent work outcomes

Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of people
