This job contributes to Starbucks success by providing leadership and transportation expertise for the North America transportation function. This position will identify and drive improvement with our transportation network flow and establish appropriate analytics and metrics. This position will balance both service and cost while achieving operational targets. This individual will model and act in accordance with Starbucks guiding principles, mission, and values. 

As a manager global logistics II, domestic transportation you will…

  • Have responsibilities and essential job functions which include but are not limited to the following:
  • Leadership - Setting goals for the work group, developing organizational capability, and modeling how we work together:
  • Models leadership behaviors that are grounded in Starbucks Mission and Values.
  • Drives engagement, development, and performance of all members of the team.
  • Manages assignment of key responsibilities and practices to ensure the immediate team of direct reports promotes a successful attitude, confidence in leadership, and teamwork to achieve business results.
  • Supports a defined common vision, sets priorities, and defines roles and responsibilities for partners and cross-functional work teams.
  • Supports the implementation of enterprise-wide and department priority programs to ensure the success of the Company.

Planning and Execution – Developing and implementing various transportation optimization projects. Including creating plans for the work group, managing execution, and measuring results:

  • o Leverages existing and create new metrics and dashboards for the team to use that would be ranging from new exception management tools to executive level summaries using Incorta.
  • o Develops logistics programs to support internal and external business partners, including distribution network infrastructure, transportation trade lane alignment, proactive capacity planning for distribution centers and transportation and identification and alignment of system tool needs with the business.
  • o Develops metrics and reports to monitor internal performance and third-party logistics, carriers, and provider goals.
  • o Manages the environmental strategies for global logistics to complement Starbucks global Corporate Social Responsibility program.
  • o Ensures Starbucks consistently meets its service metrics for on time delivery and meets spend budget.
  • o Responsible for implementing programs to reduce overall logistics costs through optimization and provider consolidation (where applicable).
  • o Uses problem-solving and alternatives analysis methodologies to assess the financial and operational impact of business initiatives. Assesses critical
  • information required to make effective decisions or recommendations for process changes. 

Partner Development & Team Building - Providing partners with coaching, feedback, and developmental opportunities and building effective teams: 

  • o Challenges and inspires partners to achieve business results.
  • o Conducts and ensures the completion of performance reviews.
  • o Oversees training and development of partners directly and indirectly managed and makes effective staffing decisions.
  • o Provides coaching, direction, and leadership support to team members to achieve partners, business and customer results.

We’d love to hear from people with:

o Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Finance or Engineering.

o 5 – 8 years of direct experience in transportation operations, transportation planning systems and logistics experience, handling dynamic and diverse product SKU’s that require accurate, on-time, and damage free deliveries.

o Experience developing performance metrics, executive summaries and analytics highlighting exceptions for teams to address focused around On Time and In Full components. Preferred tool is Incorta or similar BI tools.

o Prior experience in managing transportation services for large scale operations, preferably from food manufacturing and distribution or similar industries.

o Expertise in transportation operations with all domestic modes, sourcing, procurement and contract management.

o Experience managing third party transportation providers.

o Collaborative and motivating leadership with natural drive for results within complex supply chain model.

o Technical experience with Transportation planning, visibility, appointment management systems like Oracle TMS and project44. 

o Attracted to and successful working in a fast-paced environment with some ambiguity where innovation and results are expected and achieved.
