Job Summary

The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), located at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Golden, Colorado, just outside Denver, is the nation’s primary laboratory for research and development of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies. The National Bioenergy Center at NREL has an opening for a full time Postdoctoral Researcher.

The successful candidate will:

  • Use metabolic engineering tools to integrate, evolve, and improve pathways for autotrophic conversion of one-carbon molecules and in a non-model, but genetically amendable, bacterium for the production of renewable fuels and chemicals.
  • Have demonstrated experience in metabolic engineering, synthetic biology, directed evolution, and/or adaptive laboratory evolution as well bacterial cultivation and evaluation.
  • Have strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Be able to work independently.


Required Education, Experience, and Skills

Must be a recent PhD graduate within the last three years.


Preferred Qualifications

Qualifications that are desired, but not required, for this postdoc position include:

  • Ph.D. graduate in Molecular Biology, Microbiology, or a related field
  • Experience working with non-model microbes
  • Analytical chemistry experience (LC, GC)
  • Experience with whole genome sequencing
