Business Development at Shopify has a responsibility to “Make Commerce Better” by creating partnerships with leading platforms and service providers targeting the SME space. We focus on acquiring new customers, creating new revenue opportunities, and making Shopify the best product to launch and run a business. We are looking for someone to join our team who thinks differently about problems and values important business relationships. This person will deliver value to Shopify and its top partners by using their analytical skills to make data-informed decisions, draw on their creativity to build relevant and highly effective co-marketing programs, and use their tenacity to see ideas through to execution. OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE: You have 5+ years experience executing partnerships in the tech, retail, commerce, or payments industry (remember we take into consideration potential so if you don't have the years behind you, tell us about the impact you've had instead); You have experience making things happen in a fast-paced, dynamic environment (examples of this being applied are a plus); You have solid negotiating skills, and business and financial acumen; You are not just metrics driven, but metrics obsessed; You are an entrepreneur and have started your own business; You are a self-starter with an ability to multi-task, prioritize, take on responsibility and work well under deadlines; You have excellent oral and written skills that allow you to communicate complex issues and influence others internally and externally; You are an avid user and a follower of emerging businesses and technologies in commerce, social media, and the internet in general; You have a sense of humour. NICE TO HAVES: Experience in product marketing or product development; Familiarity with SaaS business models; Technical understanding of website development technologies; Multi-lingual (Spanish, Chinese, French, etc). YOU WILL: Act as the primary point of contact and manage relationships with relevant contacts after the launch of business development deals; Identify trends and establish new engagement channels for continuous partnership success; Lead discussion across other functional teams within Shopify including Product, Engineering, Marketing, Legal, and Finance to execute on various opportunities; Revisit and analyze current deals to learn what actionable things can be done to optimize them moving forward; Support the strategic objectives and interest of Shopify’s business teams on a global basis; Leverage your understanding of commerce, retail, and high-tech industries to structure forward-thinking partnerships; Think strategically about new business models, and product integrations with the ability to build and convey compelling value propositions and drive innovation through partners; Pursue an entrepreneurial / small team approach to business development; Serve as an evangelist both inside Shopify and externally.
