Job Description

Job Title: Associate General Counsel, IP (Must have technology and corporate experience)

Location: Reston, VA

About This Role:

Independently manage comScores global patent and trademark portfolio, including managing outside counsel and overseeing the preparation and prosecution of patent and trademark applications.

What You'll Do:

  • Grow the companys patent portfolio organically by establishing and leading periodic patent harvesting sessions with key technology and product groups.
  • Develop and communicate IP strategy for Senior Executive team on a periodic basis.
  • Due diligence support for business development and counseling the business on all IP related matters, including freedom-to-operate analysis, agreements, third-party partnerships, and product development.
  • Counsel and represent company on patent, IP litigation, IP transactional, and licensing issues.

What You'll Need:

  • A Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school, admission to practice before the USPTO and licensed to practice in at least one state are required.
  • An undergraduate or advanced degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering or Computer Science is preferred.
  • A minimum of 4 years of corporate law department experience is required.
  • A demonstrated background in internet and digital media technologies is preferred.
  • Experience in the rendering of patentability and non-infringement opinions is required.
  • Experience in license drafting and negotiation is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel) is required.
  • Must be able give well organized, thoughtful presentations to upper management and translate highly technical information to those with limited technological background
  • Ability to communicate and work well with technologists
