Your Team & Role

As a Senior Cloud Engineer in the Cloud Business Office (CBO), you will be supporting Cloud Cost Management and evangelizing our FinOps principles within Prudential. You will also be collaborating with the broader CBO team on Governance and Demand Management functions and will partner with product owners, tech leads, designers, software engineers and delivery professionals to utilize technology to automate solutions to minimize manual activities. In addition to applied experience, you will bring excellent problem solving, communication and teamwork skills, along with agile ways of working, strong business insight, an inclusive leadership attitude and a continuous learning focus to all that you do!

Here is What You Can Expect on a Typical Day 

  • Deliver computing services in cloud-based environments like AWS, Google Cloud or Microsoft Azure.
  • Develop and support solutions to automate the creation, management, or destruction of infrastructure; actively code against the roadmap 
  • Actively work with the team to identify and execute on automation ideas and process improvements 
  • Develop corporate platform standards based on cost, capability and capacity requirements to drive business value; document solutions to support the adoption of developed solutions 
  • Bring an applied understanding of relevant and emerging technologies, begin to see opportunities to provide input to the team and coach others, and embed learning and innovation in the day-to-day 
  • Work on complex problems in which analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors 
  • Increase governance transparency through automated dashboards
  • Maintain several of our repositories including Confluence and SharePoint environments
  • Collaborate with business units and engineers to stay abreast of new products and features and integrate into training materials
  • Track and report, training-related metrics and KPIs and continuously drive improvement against KPIs
  • Support the evaluation of Prudential’s cloud cost management processes and tools to identify optimization opportunities
  • Use programming languages including but not limited to Python, Shell/Power scripting, Groovy, Modern languages and Ansible, CloudFormation and Terraform frameworks 

The Skills & Expertise You Bring

  • Bachelor of Computer Science or Engineering or experience in related fields 
  • Leverage diverse ideas, experiences, thoughts and perspectives to the benefit of the organization 
  • Experience with agile development methodologies
  • Knowledge of business concepts tools and processes that are needed for making sound decisions in the context of our business 
  • Ability to learn new skills and knowledge on an ongoing basis through self-initiative and tackling challenges 
  • Excellent problem solving, communication and collaboration skills 
  • Applied experience with several of the following:
  • Understanding of cloud billing and metering and the impact of usage patterns on total cost of ownership (TCO)
  • Working knowledhe of PowerBI/Tableau
  • Experience providing chargeback, showback, budgeting and forecasting as core capabilities of cloud financial management 
  • Cloud Approved Services: compute, containers, serverless, storage, network, data, integration, event management, logging, alerting, security, AI/ML, database, analytics, and content delivery
  • Programming Languages: Python, Shell/Power scripting, Groovy, Modern languages
  • Frameworks: Ansible, CloudFormation, Terraform
  • Infrastructure fundamentals
  • Linux / UNIX Operating Systems: File Permissions, Network Configuration, Services, Process Manipulation 
  • Database Fundamentals: Schemas, Tables, Permissions, SQL 
  • Networking, TCP/IP and other common Communication Protocols: OSI Model, 3 Way Handshake, Stateful vs Stateless, Proxy Firewall 
  • Containers: Docker, Kubernetes 
  • Application Programming Interfaces (API): Consumption & Development
  • Test/Quality capabilities & methodologies (functional & nonfunctional) and associated tooling including quality automation
  • Infrastructure & Cloud Security best practices including DevSecOps
  • Dev Ops Tools & Practices: awareness, understanding of DevOps automation tools, practices & capabilities (continuous integration & continuous delivery) 
  • Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC): Development and Design Fundamentals including SDLC and coding standards 
  • Cloud Computing: Understanding and knowledge (of 1 or more): AWS, Azure or GCP
  • Cloud service consumption 
  • Disaster Recovery and High Availability 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Finance/Insurance industry experience is a plus not a must

The salary range for this role is from $105,100.00 to $156,500.00. Specific pricing for the role may vary within the above range based on many factors including geographic location, candidate experience, and skills.
