Job Description

Hybrid This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Warren, Michigan, three times per week, at minimum.

The Role

The Architectural SME - Facilities Projects & Strategy Team develops the engineering scope as part of the early planning efforts for a variety of projects including manufacturing plants (assembly, stamping, powertrain, casting, and paint), non-manufacturing sites and/or PDPM projects by providing planning team with lessons learned and help to develop the engineering scope for the specific engineering discipline. The Engineering SME is responsible for ensuring the scope reflects applicable specs and design guide intent and incorporates recent lessons learned to ensure design intent is lean while being robust. Responsibilities include engagement as part of the early planning and early design development phase of a project. Once engineering is approximately 30% complete, the Engineering SME becomes a technical resource for any issues and helps to solve problems identified by the project team, related to the specific discipline. What You'll Do

  • Provide early scope development and support of a new project by providing scope for the discipline, as part of a SOR or RFPS. Engineering SME is responsible to ensure the project plan and early scope development reflects the latest specifications and design guidance including any recent lessons learned. Engineering SME will likely work with multi-discipline members from planning, engineering, safety, project management, engineering suppliers, and stakeholders to ensure scope is defined as intended.
  • Code Consulting Advisor for specified discipline
  • Maintain and develop design guidance and GM Specifications
  • Analyze innovation opportunities and bring back to team for consideration
  • Identify cost savings opportunities early in project planning and scope development phase
  • Manage changing priorities. As the SME learns from previous projects, adjustments should be made to ensure the latest lessons and new guidance is included. Possesses the ability to decide and act without having the total picture, can handle multiple and concurrent diverse projects with minimal direct supervision, and can coordinate activities with key stakeholders and other disciplines.
  • Employ rigorous logic and methods to solve difficult schedule and engineering problems with effective solutions; probes all fruitful sources for answers; can see hidden problems; is excellent at honest analysis; looks beyond the obvious and doesn't stop at the first answers.
  • Identify future issues related to engineering utilizing broad knowledge and perspective. Future oriented and can create and execute competitive and breakthrough concepts related to facility design.

Additional Job Description

Your Skills & Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture or related field
  • 4+ years in architecture or facility related field
  • Experienced in coordinating facilities design and construction activities
  • Experience in understanding and reviewing engineering drawings and specifications
  • Experienced with Building codes and construction specifications
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Willing to travel within North America (Passport required)
