Rivals, the premier content provider and fan community for college sports recruiting, is looking for a DevOps lead with substantial experience to maintain and grow our complex infrastructure and content platform.
Comprised of a combination of cloud and dedicated server instances, a fully redundant enterprise networking stack, and an array of integrated tools and technologies, Rivals serves millions of users and must handle unique traffic demands of a seasonal business, remaining performant and always available.
Our ideal candidate is a broadly skilled, self motivated, and independent individual who is excited by the opportunity to lead operations for a large, high-traffic application with unique requirements and challenges.
You will oversee and help refine the entire DevOps process. Together with the engineering team and leadership, you will help build out our continuous integration and automated deployment systems. You will also explore performance optimizations, help make cost-effective platform and partner choices, and manage third-party tools and services we work with.
Your primary responsibilities will be:
Keep a 24x7 production environment running smoothly using a variety of automation, uptime and performance monitoring, and alerting tools and services.
Participate in the outage on-call response rotation, and be able to lead a team to rapidly troubleshoot and resolve issues.
Maintain and optimize continuous delivery platform to allow arbitrary, incremental deployments.
Identify possible platform performance improvements and work with engineering to develop and execute them.
Maintain third party partner tool & service accounts, configuration and relationships.
Products and technologies you will be working with:
AWS Ecosystem (RDS, EC2, ElasticSearch, SNS, CloudWatch, S3, IAM)
Networking (load balancers, firewalls, switches)
Cloud PaaS and container tools (Heroku, Kubernetes)
Third party monitoring, logging and alerting tools (New Relic, PagerDuty, Airbrake.io, Papertrail)
CI/CD tools (Git, CircleCI, etc.)
We’re looking for the following experience:
3+ years leading production ops for a medium-to-large high traffic environment, including hands-on outage mitigation
2+ years building and running CI/CD pipelines
Experience deploying to and operation of cloud environments (Heroku/AWS)
Fluent at scripting in Python or similar languages
Extensive experience with AWS
Database administration experience a plus
