Wireless Engineer

Successful candidates will play a critical role in wireless engineering and integration functions across a multitude of robotics and mechatronic projects. It requires both a sound understanding of fundamental engineering principles and the ability to work with wireless software and hardware subsystems. 

 Role/Responsibilities:

  • Review and analyze RF communications alternatives for various projects
  • Work with product management to identify performance and cost objectives for RF communications solutions
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary team members to integrate RF technologies into Sarcos products
  • Configure hardware and software platforms to meet identified communications objectives
  • Diagnose issues with wireless/RF hardware and software using spectrum and protocol analysis equipment and tools
  • Demonstrable competence with spectrum analyzers, protocol analyzers (particularly Kismet and Wireshark), vector network analyzers and other common wireless systems development and diagnostic tools
  • Demonstrable competence in diagnosing TCP/IP and Ethernet issues at all levels of the stack
  • Competence in developing wireless operation and performance test plans for both lab and field use
  • Knowledge of contemporary trends in wireless including SDR and digital signal processing chains

 Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s of Science in Computer Science or Electrical/Mechanical Engineering preferred
  • Experience using OpenWRT, LEDE, Tomato, BusyBox, Babel, cjdns, B.A.T.M.A.N.
  • Experience with and/or knowledge of RF theory and principles including antennas, propagation and power control demonstrated by either relevant work experience or attaining and holding a General or Advanced Amateur radio license for at least 3 years
  • Specific knowledge of 802.11 WiFi protocols and operation is preferred
  • Understanding of TCP/IP protocols and operation is preferred
  • Demonstrable programming skill in two or more of the following languages is required: C, Python, Javascript, Lua
  • Experience with HTML5 and embedded http server development is a plus
  • Experience with Shell (BASH) programming on Linux, particularly Debian/Ubuntu or Mach is preferred
  • Experience with Atheros drivers is a plus
  • Experience with build systems is a plus

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

  • Work is performed Monday through Friday with occasional overtime and weekend requirements
  • Safety awareness is absolutely essential at all times while in the work area
  • Must be able to stand and sit for extended times
