IT Project Lead

MetLife is leading the global transformation in its industry–in the role of IT Project Lead you’ll be in a position that helps drive change.  MetLife is seeking an IT Project Lead to join our growing team in Cary, NC. The associate will be experienced in dealing with functional, cross-functional or enterprise wide application development projects with the ability to positively impact both effective and efficient outcomes.  It is expected that the project manager, while working independently, will drive these software engineering projects from original concept through final implementation and will be able to communicate with stakeholders and leaders the status of specific projects within the group and individual disability insurance space.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversees small to medium sized projects or components of medium to very large/critical technology projects, typically spanning the entire organization or including various and distinct lines of business & serves as a liaison between the business and the IT area, driving varied business needs into application software solutions.
  • Directly manages the development of scope, cost and schedule of IT projects, including establishing reasonable deadlines and outlining action steps
  • Builds and maintains effective on-going communications and relationships with project tam and management to ensure designated responsibilities are completed in a manner that satisfies project objectives
  • Evaluates project risks and resolves project issues related to project responsibilities and escalates as needed
  • Works with various areas of the organization within and outside of the IT organization including clients, project members, management, vendors and other lines of business
  • Facilitates project meetings, keeps minutes and provides updates to senior leadership regarding project status and the application and implementation of technology.


Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:


  • 4+ years of hands-on project management and execution experience delivering software projects using standard SDLC processes with experience in Waterfall and Agile methodologies
  • 1+ years’ experience managing project finances
  • Strong relationship management and facilitation skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively with strong presentation and communication skills with experience providing communication to management
  • Strong analytical skills with demonstrated ability to apply analysis to actionable insights with demonstrated customer service and team orientation
  • Knowledgeable in office productivity tools (MS Office suite, etc.)
  • Bachelor’s degree required with major in technical or business-related field preferred



  • PMP Certification
  • Familiarity with financial/portfolio/project management software (e.g. Clarity, MS Project)
